Lovely Staff, Nice place to recouo

I ended up here on accident but loved my stay. Every staff member was so helpful and nice. Sites are close together and it is a bit pricy for an RV ($92 per night). This was my first time at a KOA, I enjoyed having all of the services right there. They fill propane tanls, air for tires, nice hot shower, laundry and a hot tub.

A very beautiful campground

The site was beautifully set up. Campfire rings with 2 rocking chairs. A table with 4 chairs instead of a picnic bench. Clean and extremely helpful staff.

Rocky Mtn High

Your up at 8890’ at this KOA. Wind your way up a nice but steep four lane road to this campground! We stayed in a big rig stop. Concrete slab, full hook ups. Was below freezing at night so we didn’t leave the water connected at night but the days were a pleasant 60-65 but the wind did come up several days and it was chilly. Very nice new composite patio furniture and fire pit and gas grill to use! The areas in between spaces have large enough rocks to cause some tripping issues while hooking up. Watch your step.

Nice bathrooms two large hot tubs and 6 washing machines and dryers @ $2 a load for each.

Nice staff and gift shop with beer and liquor and most needs. They had just opened for the season and have pizza available but we didn’t try it!

If you like to gamble there are a plethora of casino s just a few miles down the valley in Central City.

Mountain High

Yes Mountain High!! 8100’ high. 7 miles off I-70 at Idaho Springs. 25 miles into outskirts of Denver. Don’t worry they have oxygen! Not kidding!!

Nice campground, friend staff, laundry, fun little gift shop with some food stuffs, beer and liquor. Pizza cooked there but we didn’t try it.

Our space was a big rig space on concrete pad with ample seating, a table, a fire pit, and a propane grill stove… use you own propane! Full hook ups. It was still reaching freezing at night and so we didn’t hook up our water.

👀 It's worth the climb up the mountain 🫶🏻

We initially planned on staying for one night on our cross-country trip, but we had a blowout of one of our trailer tires. The staff was super helpful and some of the friendliest I have come across on this entire trip. We had site 18, which was a pull-through. BEST VIEW EVER! Definitely making a trip back.

As always, solid amenities

KOAs have consistently had solid amenities. This one has a large gift shop and a small selection of food available inside. The showers are the nicest we’ve seen so far. There is very little privacy on the lots but it does look like some of the further camping spots are more secluded. Great place to rest and take a shower, but, again, very little privacy and spots are very close together.

Holy Crow!

After a gorgeous "climb" up the curvy Casino Central City Parkway road to find this KOA (breathtaking views!), we were thrilled at the ease of simply picking a site and plugging in. Granted, we were only able to stay one night, and it was a chilly mid-October visit, so there were tons of sites to choose from (that's the best part of Fall camping in my opinion). We requested propane via text message (the self-check in had all of the information we needed), and within a few minutes, the young KOA gentleman took care of our propane refill. The campground itself is perched upon a hill overlooking a valley of homes. The view is amazing and the sites are large, manicured and landscaped 'like home'. Would definitely stay again!

Rip off Seniors

This Place ripped us off for almost$79. We made a reservation traveling from Moab Utah and DOT in all their wisdom closed I-70 at exit 87(flooding? construction? who knows!) sending travelers on a 200+(you heard me right) detour through winding mountain roads elevating to almost 12000 ft at one point. It was clear half way that were not going to make it to the other side. It was 3pm when we called the campground and while they acknowledged that I-70 does close at times, they refused to refund our money because"you have an open road". We are a senior couple and we were tired and did not want to drive these roads in the dark. We were lucky enough to find a wonderful resort in Granby and called the KOA to tell them we would not make it and again request a refund. They refused again. I asked that the manager, who had left for the day, call me in the morning. I never heard from her. When we left Granby, the last 50 miles back to I-70 was as bad as the first 130 miles and we realized quickly we would not have made it in the dark. I filed a complaint with KOA cooperate the next day and still didn't hear back from the manager. I also have a complaint pending with the BBB. We have been RVing for 30 years and know the cancelation policies better than some of the staff at the places we stay. This was NO FAULT of ours yet this campground took advantage of senior couple who didn't want to risk their safely traveling winding mountain roads in the dark. If you are traveling east on I-70 and you see a sign saying closed, get off before exit 87 and find a place to spend the night. I-70 did reopen the next day. It also closes westbound and your sent on the same detour but I'm not sure at what exit. DO NOT take the detour, especially with an RV. AND......DO NOT GIVE THIS CAMPGROUND ONE CENT UNTIL YOU ARE THROUGH THE GATES!

Feel let down

The good:

The staff is pleasant and the view from sites 1-10 is good.

Showers are clean.

Everything else:

After viewing the website, we thought this would be a good place to stop after Estes Park. We expected trees and a quick drive into Denver.

This place is NOT near Denver. I don’t think they should call it Denver West, it should just be Central City.

Unfortunately, the campground only has a few trees along the edge of the campground. The rv sites were on a big gravel lot, cleared of trees. It felt like a giant parking lot. It was dusty and hot.

They are dog friendly, but other than a very small square of astroturf, there’s nothing but gravel. No place to walk a dog.

Not KOAs fault —As for Central City, we did not know it was mainly casinos. It felt as though the campground was full of people there to visit the casinos.

Other campers had loud TVs going and that made it difficult for the kids to sleep.

Ultimately, we decided to check out early and lose the money.

Denver West is a stretch..

This location is about 39 miles from Downtown Denver or about 45-60 mins (with traffic). They should just say Central City KOA in the title. Central city is a cool mining town and you would never know it was there without the KOA #1 and the Casinos #2, its like a mini Las Vegas...if you don't like the gambling thing then I recommend Idaho Springs which is real close by, and if you have a high ground clearance vehicle, you can take the mountain road option to get to, saw a lot of old mining relics and wildlife. The rv site was extremely clean and maintained. They even escort you to your spot when you arrive. I'm new to the RV site camping thing, but this was one of the nicest sites we've stayed at. With my rig (roof top tent) I don't have a bathroom and count on the bathroom at the park, my site was a fair distance from the facilities, would have been nice to be a little closer. However we enjoyed our stay and will stay here again.

Pizza and Pancakes! :D

This KOA campground was impressive to me. My bf and I arrived too late to use the hot tub but the showers were clean and spacious. The campground offered pizza and wing delivery! They also offered an all you can eat pancake breakfast for $3 in the morning. Overall we enjoyed our stay, and the women working the main desk were very informative and helpful.

The view from some of the nearby trails were amazing as well, we were lucky enough to enjoy the beautiful day on the trails.
