Description

Howdy!

Your Alpine Canyon Campsite is located in stunning Norwood Colorado, with views of the La Sal Mountains (Utah) to the west, the San Juans (Telluride) to the east, and the beautiful sprawling valley of Wrights Mesa in the middle.

The campsite is off the back of a little canyon (so it's a cul-de-sac, meaning no through traffic = privacy!). This also means that you will be nestled in the canyon, so the views of the mountains will be all around you within minutes out and about, but while at the campsite it feels more like you're tucked into the woods.

It's a very peaceful hideaway, albeit there are indeed a few neighbors (every one is at least two acres apart), so please keep it peaceful and respect the locals. No loud amplification (bluetooth speaker and respectable volume is fine). No loud "partying" of any sorts.

Regarding terrain and vegetation; please note, although we're in the Rocky Mountains, it is an alpine "high desert" located in the Colorado Plateau. Meaning the plush valley you see is irrigated by snow melt, and altho there is a lot of greenery, we must be vigilant in obeying the fire restrictions during the dry seasons. Please do not think about having an open fire unless the fire signs (there is one entering town) in the region say it's clear to do so ( + most of the time it's not during the summer / fall). The good news is, Norwood is an International Dark Sky Community! Meaning that instead of looking down at a fire, you'll be looking up at the blazing stars with some of the best views of the night sky in the country. Trust me, the stars are one of the reasons I bought the property.

Although this beautiful spot is remote in feeling, the small "Town" of Norwood is within 10 minutes of a car ride, and includes a grocery store (Clark's; open 7-9), gas station, Ace Hardware, a Saloon (The Lone Cone Saloon), dispensary (Alpine Wellness), Post Office, a state of the art Libary, and few other gems.

Other great news…

Telluride, the crown jewel of San Miguel County (at least according to the millionaires… I like Norwood better for it's big open sky, peaceful privacy, and salt of the earth folk) is 45 mins away! Telluride hosts some of the best skiing in North America in the winters, and some of the best festivals during the summer (Telluride Bluegrass, Blues and Brews, Telluride Film Fest, Ride Fest, Telluride Mushroom Fest, Telluride Jazz Fest, etc).

Legendary Moab is a mere 2 hours away! And the drive there is one of my favorites in the country. Ken's Lake has camping that way and it's a great little stop along the way to Canyonlands or Arches Nat. Park.

Other epic attractions nearby are the hike at Blue Lakes, Alta Lakes, Thunder Trails (known for biking and off roading), Miramonte Reservoir (where you can swim with a view of the Lone Cone Mountain), Telluride Horseback Adventures (Ride with Roudy) is also in Norwood. Heck there is a rodeo in town too if your around for that!

There are endless things to do in the region, from rafting / kayaking / tubing down river, to fly fishing, hiking, biking, off roading, skiing, snow showing, stargazing etc.

Further notes:

I am single-handedly slowly developing this property. It took me years (due to travel and weather restraints) to clean it up after how the previous owners left it, and she's feeling so good after all the hard work… Now that it's cleaned up a bit, I'm developing a little Tiny Home tucked away. So please note that you are entering an off-grid homestead of sorts, and this is technically "vacant" land, but it does have some human elements evolving and I'm glad to have you witness some of the journey. That being said, when you contact me to book, I may or may not be there working on the property. Most often I am not, but if this is a concern of yours, give me a shout!

Thanks!

Directions

- If you're headed directly from the west (Telluride, Ridgeway area) with no need to pass through "downtown" Norwood, you take left (before town) on to Country Road 43ZS. Ride that straight down to Y43 and take a right. - Spruce is located in a little canyon, south of Grand Ave. (main street Norwood) directly between County Road 43ZS and 42ZsRd, meaning from the west end of Norwood, you can also get there from 42ZsRd, just go left instead of right. - Spruce Dr is an unpaved road and can be easy to miss if you're not looking for it, but it's visible on google maps and a totally safe and manageable road. - Please drive slow when driving through the neighborhood. There are deer and some folk's dogs might be out on their driveways etc.
