Decent close to Tahoe

Large clean vault toilets and drinking water, nice hosts, large sites that would be good for rvs. Some noise from highway but the road quiets down after dark. Trail down to the river and lots of little beaches which are lovely, saw some folks fishing. Nice and safe- female solo traveler thumbs up.

Decent option in Lake Tahoe region

Road noise is real. It lessens late, like after midnight, but it never really impacted my sleep, and I’m a light sleeper. Sites are well spaced and a good size. Convenient to Tahoe City (<10 minutes) and hiking. I’d rather be in one of the state park campgrounds on or near the shores of Lake Tahoe, but those fill fast.

On the Truckee River

Some friends and I stayed at this campground because of its proximity to Lake Tahoe, where we had planned to take a day trip to kayak.

I thought the campground was very peaceful. The river was gushing when we were there in June, and we had a great view of the river. The site we had was spacious. We even saw a bear across the river, so dont forget to put your stuff in the bear boxes! One other thing to note was we had to walk along a little trail to get to our site. Not a huge distance, but would have been helpful if we had a little wagon or just brought less stuff. Not sure if all the sites are like that, but you might want to check if you prefer to have a site with parking close by.

Nice find

To be honest our first impression of this place was not the greatest. The sites are fairly close together and there wasn’t a lot of tree coverage in most sites. We used 3 sites for a group (7, 9, 13) 9 and 13 are right across from each other so that worked out nice. 7 was in another loop but kind of backed up to us so it worked out ok. Trukee river runs right by the campground, however if you want to stay in the sites next to it you will have to hike your stuff to your site. I believe they were sites 23 to 27. It’s not far but if you have a lot of gear it might be more trouble that it’s worth. The only real negative is that the campground is right off the highway and you get a lot road noise day/night. Overall we had a great trip and the camp host was very friendly! I would definitely recommend this place and we will probably be back.
