North Black Canyon

Off a gravel road with multiple pullouts, North Black Canyon provides dispersed camping within the 1.6 million acres of Mojave National Preserve. The National Park Service manages this drive-in and walk-in area where campfires, pets, and alcohol are permitted. One camper noted the rough but passable road conditions and mentioned moving on to other spots in the morning, though they observed what appeared to be a higher-quality site nearby.

The preserve requires no entrance fees but offers no services beyond official campgrounds. Campers can explore dispersed camping around Mojave National Preserve throughout this vast desert landscape. Plan to relocate between different areas to experience the preserve's varied terrain and attractions like the Rings Trail.

There were better spots than we snagged

Packed gravel, several places to pull off, road was rough but very passable. We came in late and moved to Kelso Dunes in the am but the other spot close by looked like a 5 star. No entrance fees. No services other than official campgrounds. Preserve is 1.6 million acres, you will need to move around to see different spots. Rings Trail is worth the hike. @TKCompass on YouTube TV
