Lakeshore East sits along the shore of the Sacramento Arm of Shasta Lake. The facility is partially shaded by oak and pine and provides some privacy between sites with an undergrowth of grass and raspberry bushes. Lakeshore East is easily accessible from I-5 and offers direct access to the lake from a number of sites. Walk-ins are accepted year-round.
Both the Antlers and Sugar Loaf public boat ramps are nearby. Antlers is approximately 2 miles from the campground. Power and non-motorized boating, fishing and waterskiing are all popular pastimes. Visitors may be able to informally moor their boats at the campground. Anglers can fish for trout, catfish, Chinook salmon, crappie, bluegill, white sturgeon, brown bullhead and bass.
Shasta-Trinity is the largest national forest in California with a diverse landscape encompassing five wilderness areas, hundreds of mountain lakes and 6,278 miles of streams and rivers. Lake Shasta sits at an elevation of 1,067 feet, with 365 miles of shoreline punctuated by steep mountains blanketed in manzanita and evergreens. A snow-capped Mount Shasta, the second-tallest mountain in the Cascade Range, looms in the distance.
Lake Shasta Caverns are located on the McCloud Arm of Shasta Lake in an area known as the Grey Rocks. Tours are given daily at this privately owned facility.

Drive in and group camp spots with some sites right off the lake (though some spots had rocky beaches). Pretty views of the lake! Bathrooms, trash, and yurts available.
RangerWe stayed 2 nights in late October and were the only campers beside the host. There are 2 pull thru sites (10 & 12), we stayed in 10 in our 40' coach with tow. Flush toilets in 2 different buildings, no soap or hot water at the sinks, however. All sites have a nice picnic table and fire pit. Lots of water spigots throughout the campground but they don't have threads to allow a hose to hookup. There are also a few decent size garbage bins that are bear proof. Maybe it's the time of the year or lack of campers but the host wasn't ever seen. Lots of sites had litter here & there and the fire pits contained the previous camper's trash. Garbage bins were nearly full. The trees over the main road need trimming, lots of branches scratching the motorhome roof unnecessarily. Lake Shasta was really low so we didn't attempt to scramble down to the water. $25/night without discounts for a basic site. Yurts are more. 50% discount for golden or access National pass.

LegendWe were glad we made the extra drive to this campground at the base of Mt Shasta - temps were cooler than the valley we had just come thru in Northern California and the pool was refreshing. Kids love staying at KOA’s and it didn’t disappoint. We had a good pull thru full hook up site across from the pool. Nice staff and easy check in. Great stopover for a night.

aThis is a nice campground in Northern California with lots of things to do from boating on low MPH lake - fishing - trails around lake and a swimming hole. We've been coming here for years and over the past 5 or so they have let a lot of debris lay aroung the campsites and have cut down most the shade trees but still a fun place to camp i gave it a 3 star based on the price and over all condition of the sites
GuideI am in LOVE with this place!!!! I have been to many lakes in northern California but nothing as perfect as this place. I accidentally booked a spot here at Siskiyou but meant to go to lake Shasta and boy was luck on my side!!! We drove past lake Shasta on our way here and it didnt have many trees and it was 104 degrees. We drove another 40 or so minutes to lake Siskiyou and the trees are so beautiful and you have the most gorgeous view of lake Shasta! Do yourself and your family a favor and book your next camping trip here!

This is one of my favorite campsites in California. There all the falls, which are beautiful, the lake for swimming and water sports and lots of hiking trails. The campsites are dry sites (no hookups), but they have updated bathrooms and showers. They also have cabin for rent, but you have to bring your own bedding. The visitors center is awesome and they always have programs going on for kids and adults alike. Both the falls and lake Britten is within walking distance. Even if I am not camping, I stop here to visit when going through CA.

We stayed here for 4 weeks while traveling for work in Redding, so I think our review is well qualified. We're traveling in a 40ft RV for reference though they do also have tent spaces.
First off, I'm surprised to be the first one to review this campground on the Dyrt, since it has a lot of informative reviews on Google. We looked at a handful of other campgrounds prior to staying here. Covid and wild fires did have an effect on the other campgrounds that were open, but of those that were, I think this was one of the best.
It has all the amenities one could expect from a typical RV park, full hookups, wifi, cable, showers, laundry, etc. There's a cell tower on the way in to the campground. You can expect two to three bars of LTE from both AT&T and Verizon (we use both) . The staff is very friendly and helpful. I can't say enough about their exceptional attitudes. The spaces are all in the woods with mostly shade, though there are some that get more sunlight than others. The RV spaces are large and offer more privacy than most campgrounds. It tended to fill up on the weekends (sometimes completely) but was fairly quiet during weekdays with only a handful of people. Quiet and peaceful during the week. About thirty minutes to downtown Redding. Small gas station within walking distance, and a small grocery store in driving distance. 1.5 miles off the highway. Big rigs welcome. The website shows pictures of all the individual sites, quite helpful.
It was a mostly positive experience, but we'll mention two negatives. The bathrooms sometimes got pretty dirty on the busy weekends and ran out of supplies at times. Hard to say if the pandemic was causing short staff or not though. The other issue is the bears. Its wasn't an issue of them bothering us, we only physically saw them one time in four weeks. They got into the trash pretty regularly though. It was very evident in the morning when the cans would be knocked over and rummaged through. It could be easily solved with some bear-proof trash cans. Not really a big deal and it didn't have any effect on our stay.
We'll definitely be coming back next time we're in the area. Checkout the reviews on Google for more perspective.
ScoutNice place, kid friendly and for the most part very clean. I say that only because it was 4th of July weekend and there was a dirty bunch around us. But even with that the park crew was great and did the best to keep things up as much as they could. They do enforce quiet time which is great and they have a little store/burger spot which is very convenient next to the pool area. Very friendly and helpful staff. They’ll also deliver wood to your camp site.

I really liked this rustic little campground. The owner was nice and the grounds were simple and naturally pretty. Unexpectedly, there was a little place to play a game of pool. It was very quiet, and nice and dark for sleeping. I went traipsing around and found my way to Shasta Lake. If you do the same, watch out for poison oak! Oh, yeah and I forgot to say - the showers weren't fancy but the water was hot, and there was a big sink for doing your dishes.
ScoutI wanted to love this place. Simple, pretty, quiet ( at least at check in) but 1 am, a group of partiers ruined the experience with loud kids, loud adults and loud dogs as if it was 1 pm and not 1 am and shouting at each other as if they were a football field away and not just a few feet. They camped no where near me and yet I could hear them, clear as day. They were left unchecked and it really ruined the stay.
TravelerI can't rate on even being able to stay but simply based on a phone call. We had filled out their form on their website to try and book and they never responded back. We tried calling and the gentleman was very rude. He said long sites werent available which I get. But when we asked for a shorter site and a spot to park our car hauler he wouldnt even look. He had the adaucity to say well your a few weeks put Reservations change check back. I get if you dont have anything available but he didn't even look. This guy definitely doesnt want business.

Large campground it has 14 sites. A few of the sites are double sites pretty huge for 2 groups. The water is low right now (may 2021) but, normally it would be walking distance to the water even a few 100 feet. There is clean bathrooms, water, bear bins, and fire rings as well as trash cans! The fee is $25. There is no camp host so bring your own wood. There is also a little day use area if you want to just bring your paddle board/kayak for a day.
The water is very low right now so the only water flowing is the mc cloud creek so it is hard to be in the water if you don’t want to be pushed away. Normally Shasta lake is full and you can swim around.

We loved our stay. We felt safe and it’s probably one of the most cleanest campground and facilities I’ve ever been to. Clean bathrooms, showers, zero trash around. All around a great visit. Perfect spot if you are traveling with a pet. Highly recommend.

One night stay and arrived late so did self check in...no password for bathrooms were given, so asked a neighbor for a password. One of the restrooms was shut down for repairs. Too pricy.

Weird vibes: when we pulled up there was only one other truck there. They were two people yelling at each other pretty loud so that was kinda awkward but, nothing crazy. Then we set up our tent and other car came to the spot next to ours and checked the bear box and was walking around the spot. They moved parked at another spot and did the same thing. I’m not sure if they left something or what was going on but, they just walked around to each site checking the bear box’s??
Not sure if I would return unless more people were there because I felt uncomfortable leaving my tent and things there unattended.

We go to this KOA every June or July for the last 10 years. It is a great place. Not your typical KOA as it is more like camping vs other KOA's we have stayed at. Lots of trees and shade. Some RV sites are larger than others and lots of seasonal sites. Close to lake and they have a dock. Beach is seasonal but can drive out on the mud, just don't get stuck. Rocky beach if water is low so bring your river shoes. Sites are full hook ups. Bathrooms are clean and they have made some improvements. Small pool but nice. Can get noisy on the weekends with dirt bikes etc driving around. Great for kids. Lot's to do. Very pretty area. Trinity Lake is not that busy during the week.
TravelerWe stayed here for 4 nights in a towable trailer. I highly recommend getting a spot near the tents and exit to the river road if you are towing a trailer. We were on the end of Raccoon Rd and it was fantastic. The tent sites looked great with plenty of space for you to set up. Several people even brought small trailers like RPods into the tent area and just didn't use hookups. There are plenty of dirt paths out to the lake both from the KOA and nearby. Many people brought ATVs to utilize these and it looked like a great time. We used out truck and mountain bikes to tootle around on them and had a great time. This place would be great if you tow a boat and just want to set up with tents in an RV site as well - we saw many people doing that. Kayaks were available to rent in set 2 hour timeslots, banana bikes available if you are into that. There are plenty of games like bocci and ladder ball. All in all we had a great time and would highly recommend it. Great place to use a base camp to hit nearby rivers, ponds, trailheads, or even the lake. 20 minutes away from the main marina on the south side of the lake where you can rent a boat for the day too!
GuideCheck in was a challenge, staff was grumpy, even with a reservation. They have a later check in (3pm) but will allow early check in for $25 (nickel & dime?!?). There was no cell service. Correction to Dyrt description, wireless is only available at the KOA store.
ScoutStayed here over the 4th of July weekend. Campers were respectful of quiet hours and staff was mostly courteous. They charge for everything including an early check-in fee when we had to move sites due to reservation conflicts. Lots of children and some camp sites are on top of each other. The water was low so fishing was difficult to find. Great for families with young children and those hoping for entertainment for kids. Not great if you are looking for space and quiet.
