Mill Creek National Forest

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Sitting just off Highway 395 south of Lundy Lake Road, Mill Creek National Forest is a dispersed camping area within Inyo National Forest where Mill Creek runs close enough to camp that the sound carries through the night. The entrance is easy to miss: look for the turnoff just south of Lundy Lake Road on 395, or take the back route in past the first building on Lundy Lake Road itself. The dirt road is rough in spots, and reviewers consistently recommend driving slowly.

The site sits in a draw between two hills, with the creek audible from most spots and shade from the surrounding terrain. DJ M. describes it as "cool water, a nice breeze in the evening, water sounds day and night." Campfires are not permitted due to dry brush and deadwood in the area, so bring a propane fire pit if you want a flame. Hike to the top of either hill and you get open sightlines toward Mono Lake along with reliable cell signal.

No restrooms are on-site. Pets are welcome. The area handles small groups well and tends to draw self-sufficient campers comfortable with dispersed setups. Nearby, Lundy Canyon Campground provides a more developed alternative a few miles to the west. Campers routing through the Eastern Sierra, whether coming from Yosemite or heading into it, will find this a functional and low-key overnight stop worth knowing about.

Beautiful and quiet spot close to Mono Lake

Not gonna lie, I was skeptical at first. GPS took me to the wrong (dirt) road, it was getting dark and stormy... Eventually stormed passed and I got a clear moonlight and could hear the gurgle of the river a few meters away. Best reward was in the morning... Wow! ♥️ A nice spot for those just leaving Yosemite or about to go into it.

The road is not great, drive slowly

PS: I found a tote bag (see pic) where I was, if it's yours hit me up!!

Snow in the Spring

This is a very cool spot the entrance is just south of Lundy Lake rd. on the 395, there's also a back way in on Lundy Lake rd. just past the first building. The spot is quite big, perfect for a small group. It's right next to a creek in between two hills, and if you hike up them, there's a perfect view of Mono Lake and full cell signal. The only con is that there are no campfires allowed, too much deadwood and dry brush around next time bringing the propane fire pit.
