Snorkeling and spearfishing enthusiasts will find clear waters and rocky cliffs at Little Harbor Campground, accessible by boat, shuttle bus from Avalon, or hiking the Trans-Catalina Trail. The campground sits in a protected cove on Catalina Island's remote coast, where each of the spaced-out sites includes a water spout, picnic table, fire pit, and food storage box.
Campers can anchor in the harbor, though boaters need to set bow and stern anchors to avoid swinging into rocks. The sandy beach offers kayak rentals with advance booking, while the surrounding cliffs extend for miles in both directions. Buffalo roam the area, leaving droppings throughout the campground. Cell coverage remains limited except on a large rock near the shore.
"Water is available and you can have firewood delivered right to your site," notes Mandy E.. Portable toilets and outdoor showers serve the campground. Sites closer to the water provide sunset views and fill up first. Campers must pack in all food and supplies, as no store operates on-site. The nearest resupply point requires returning to Two Harbors or Avalon via scheduled shuttle service.
This campground works well for backpackers on the Trans-Catalina Trail and boaters seeking a protected anchorage with camping facilities. For additional options, see campgrounds near Two Harbors.
