Land sailing enthusiasts will find Ivanpah Dry Lake serves as a world-renowned destination for wind-powered craft. This dispersed BLM campground accommodates big rigs and allows pets, with a bathroom kiosk and picnic tables positioned about halfway to the prime sailing area. The playa remains reserved exclusively for non-motorized vehicles like land yachts and kite buggies to preserve the surface.
Motorized vehicles must stay off the lake bed to prevent rutting, and the area closes completely when wet conditions make travel dangerous. Campers can access sites around Nipton for additional options in the region. The larger dry lake sits on the west side, with a smaller lake behind the casinos to the east.
