Simple and Beautiful

I live in the area and still love to camp here. There is also a full 10 x 10 person cabin and mess hall facility that the county rents out at the park.

Fantastic

I had a great time. Only complaint was of the previous campers who had left cans and cigarette butts.

Nice spot, noisy locals

Pretty campground with large, secluded spaces, however, seems to be a local hangout on the weekends. Cars loudly speeding through the campgrounds all day and night until 3am, didn't seem to be any rangers to control the noise. We barely slept.

High altitude, hidden in the trees

Beautiful spot. Old school mountainside camping in the tall trees. Campsites are around 6,000’, pit toilets, grills, steel fire pits, picnic tables and potable water taps. We spent a night in late May and there were only a few other sites occupied on a Wednesday night. This is a hidden gem. It was 100 in Mojave and 70 in the TMP. Gorgeous tall evergreens and some larger oaks, a few might be old growth? ***Note: this is not a place for large RVs or trailers. The road in is tight and twisty with no shoulders and some trees and rock faces snug up against it. The campground is very steep, the roads are one lane and very very curvy. Some sites are very near each other, others are more dispersed. There are large groups sites.

Quiet and Peaceful

When they say mountain, they mean mountain! The road to the campground is a narrow, twisty, two lane road. Then we got to the campground and it got narrower and steeper. The grades in some parts of the campground were double digit percent grades and the hairpin turns were very sharp. We were towing a 13' travel trailer and did OK, but I wouldn't want anything bigger than that. Just a warning if you have a bigger rig. We Mostly saw car campers and campers on pick up trucks the night we were there.

The campground itself is basic with vault toilets dispersed throughout the campground. Our site had a water hookup, a picnic table, a fire ring. There were showers at the upper end of the campground but we didn't use them. The cost was $18 per night ($16 for seniors). The campground was very quiet the night we were there, but it also looks like it could be the party spot for locals so it might be more noisy on the weekends and during the summer. Overall I recommend it.

Quiet campground

We stopped here on the way from SF to AZ in October. There are lots of open spots, FCFS. Vault toilets and trash cans scattered throughout. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. There is a nature trail nearby although we didn’t have time to go check it out. Cost was $18 paid in envelopes at the entrance.

Hidden additional camping experiences

The camping stop is best known for its hiking g trail to the top of Tehachapi's highest peak. But also has cabins available for rent. There is one geo up site as well and access for a horse trail to head on the trail sites are first come first serve

amazing campground

I normally don't like campgrounds because of the way they are set up with neighbors to each side. But this place is incredible, with plenty of private spots due to the whole place being on the side of a mountain. all in all great campground.

Great getaway without going far!

This is our go to spot just to get out and camp for a night without going far! Beautiful hikes with tons of scenic outlooks. Kid and pet friendly, never crowded it seems so you can also have some privacy. Great camp site and well maintained. We love it!
