The access road to Boca Rest Campground winds through miles of unpaved terrain, requiring patience but rewarding drivers with a more secluded camping experience than other areas around Boca Reservoir. This US Forest Service campground sits on dirt and gravel sites that spread apart enough to avoid feeling crowded, though Laura M. notes "there isn't much division or privacy between sites."
Campers consistently mention the proximity to water as a key draw. The lake sits just down the hill from most sites, with calm conditions that work well for paddling and fishing. Families with young children often use inflatable rafts in the shallow areas near shore. The campground accommodates RVs up to 45 feet, and several reviewers appreciated the level sites that work for both tent camping and larger rigs. Pine trees provide some shade, though coverage varies by site location.
Each site includes a picnic table and fire pit, with vault toilets maintained regularly throughout the season. The campground operates from mid-May through October, with overnight temperatures dropping into the 30s even during Memorial Day weekend. Cell service proves spotty at best, particularly for Verizon users. A camp host stays on-site and helps with questions about the area.
The rough access road that deters some visitors contributes to the campground's quieter atmosphere. Andrew D. describes it as "a well kept locals secret, leading to flat waters and many undisturbed camping nights." Road conditions can change seasonally, and detours sometimes complicate the approach when maintenance work closes certain routes. For those seeking places to camp near Floriston, this location offers a more remote alternative about half a mile from the boat ramp.
Reservations help secure preferred sites during peak summer months, when the $20 nightly fee provides access to basic amenities without the crowds found at more accessible campgrounds.
