Brownstown Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Fishing, hiking, and exploring the Eastern Sierra are all within reach from Brownstown Campground, a free, privately managed site just outside Bishop in California's Owens Valley. The location puts campers close to town for resupply runs while keeping mountain views and open grazing land visible from the sites. Sites sit back-to-back with limited privacy between them, and road traffic noise is audible, particularly for light sleepers.

The campground runs April through October and provides a full set of amenities: drinking water, flush toilets, showers, electric and water hookups, sewer connections, a dump station, and WiFi. RVs up to 50 feet can be accommodated. Staff have drawn consistent praise across reviews, and cleanliness comes up repeatedly, with one camper describing the bathrooms and showers as reliably well-maintained. Trees cover much of the grounds, and some sites look out toward the mountains or a neighboring golf course.

Nearby options include Browns Campgrounds to the south and J Diamond Mobile Ranch to the north, both within a mile. Brownstown works well as an overnight stop or short-stay base for those moving through the region rather than seeking a remote, nature-immersive experience. One reviewer who had returned for two decades called it the place with "the best customer service in town." Reservations are available, and pets are allowed. Book ahead during summer months when Bishop draws heavy visitor traffic.

Very nice stay

Driving through and saw the campground. Turned around and decided to stay. Pretty grounds with a lot of trees and either views of the golf course or mountains and cows grazing. Very nice staff. I would definitely stay here again. Bathrooms very clean. They take care of the place.

Close to town....

If you are looking for a basic campground, meaning not much for visuals this is a good location. Friendly staff and right next to town. Really not the camping experience I look for when I want to get out into nature. Spots are back to back. No privacy.

Great Stay!

I stopped here in early summer and it felt wonderful! It was great being close to town if we needed anything and I loved having our own clean site. The bathrooms/showers were clean and the campground was pleasant and home-y. The only negative part would be traffic noise, but it wasn’t a dealbreaker. I’ll stay here again!
