Not a bad place, wind was an issue

Stayed here on June 4th, 2023 because Pleasent Valley was underwater. The campsite was open despite what it says here (perhaps because PV is closed?).

Nothing special, it was clean and peaceful, very little protection from the wind. Great views of the Sierra.

Perfect overnighter with a view!

Tried the lower campground but every spot seemed full or reserved. Decided to check this out and definitely made the right decision. Beautiful little blm managed spot. Pit was about a third full and quiet for my night.

Everything but water.

Old Quarry stay up top or down in the pit, food, water, gas down the road at Indian reservation. Nearly empty....

Got eaten alive

Camped here once during the warmer months and was eaten alive by mosquitoes!!! We had everything including candles and bugs spray....but nothing will stop the storm of mosquitoes from eating you alive at sunset. I got over 100 bites or more all over my body. Those sucker even able to bite me over my long sleeves colthings that I had on. I think fall and winter will be fine, but never in the summer time! You have been warned!

Surprisingly Beautiful

Site 57

We tried camping down by the river, but chose this spot in a rush for need of WiFi to work the following day. At first blush pit fees barren and desolate, but the vast beauty looking across the dessert ground and mountain ridge is simply stunning to wake up to and watch the sunset. We stayed weeks when we thought we’d only stay a couple nights.

This is primitive camping. No hookups or water. There is not a bit of shade to speak of, great for our solar and love of the sunshine, but not for shade seekers.

There are less flying insects than at the campground down the hill on the river, but many ants, bees, wasps. Also, no critters.

We have a quad and were happy to see so many trails leading out right from camp.

It’s $5/night. For that you have access to a trash bin with a bear lock and an ADA approved bathroom. That’s all. But, it is near a large play land for off road seekers of all kinds. We explored the area and found a historical petroglyph site.

There are many campgrounds nearby with amenities available, but if you don’t need them this is a surprisingly peaceful look over the flatlands at the foot of the Eastern Sierra range.

Convenient, cheap, but crowded

Great for meeting other climbers and super cheap, but be prepared for people driving around late at night, and a line to use the bathroom.
