Mystical, Magical Red Rock Country

Well the secret’s out, everyone and their mother knows how magical Sedona is. Last Saturday my wife and I drove south from Flag because the FR roads to campsites were still closed up there only to see that Sedona was overrun by tourists. After driving about 45 min down FR 525, and about to give up finding a campsite we found one just before the dead end and it was perfect. Maybe the best site in the area. Parked up on a hill and overlooked the natural wonders of Sedona. We drove far enough where we had nobody near, which is my preference anyways. What a great experience it turned out to be! Glad we didn’t turn around and head home.

Beautiful Sunsets

The sites are large and each had a nice fire ring. Very private due to the juniper trees. Roads are in great shape and you should have no issue with a 2wd vehicle. The road to Honanki is washed out and areas may be questionable for 2wd. Nice area for a hike down a well travelled dirt/gravel road to Heritage sites. Palatki and Honanki Heritage sites have ancient ruins and rock art.

Sedona Dispersed Camping

Drive on FR 525 about 6-7 miles and you will get away from the busier part of the road and camp spots. Views are incredible and really private. Highly recommend.

Red Rocks Heaven

This place is magical. We drove 6.7 miles off the paved turn off to an amazing overlook. The sunset against the red rocks is fantastic. Well worth the drive for free camping. No facilities so pack it in and pack it out but there are two ancient dwelling sites that are open from 9:30-3:00 each day with vault toilets and water. 2 bars of T-Mobile 5G service at the top of the hill. Fires permitted on calm days/nights unless otherwise states. While camp sites are spread out and noise is not a concern there are loads of people camping/boondocking and using the ATV/OHV trails nearby. Very friendly people, very clean and well established sites. Worth noting we towed a small trailer in a high clearance 4x4 and it was bumpy but an airstream and toy hauler were near our site too, so anything is possible. Cheers!

Sitenear lookout.
