Windmill Camp

Close to Sedona. There’s 5 designated camping areas along this road. There are two clean portapotties.

It is small and busy so you won’t have privacy, but it works for a night or two if you want to be close to Sedona.

Stayed here for a few nights and had an excellent time for what it was. It's a relatively small lot but much more quiet and intimate than Surprise closer to the highway. Two clean portapotties onsite which was very appreciated. Spots for tent camping. Ground isn't super level for vehicles. Neighbors were very quiet and respectful for the most part. Beautiful sunsets in the area. About 10 minutes out from Sedona and 20 minutes out from Cottonwood which has a Walmart. Road to get up here was a little rough but still doable in my sedan while going slow. Beautiful stars. Vehicles come past sometimes, presumably to get to the further campsites, but overall a pretty peaceful spot, at least in the Spring.

Windmill is on the left about 2 miles from the main road. It’s an open area with plenty of room to find a spot for the night. Good Verizon coverage here and tonight a stunning moonrise.

I got here around 9pm on a Tuesday evening and it was somewhat full. Pulled into a "spot" and everything was good. I was surprised at how quiet it was. Not a creature was stirring except some crickets. This is just a circle of dirt with a couple of porta-potties. It's not very level, so try and find a level spot if you can. Some beautiful views. Great hiking opportunities. There were some dump trucks that came through the main road around 7 am and I'm sure that is what woke everyone up. There are a couple of trees around the site, but none in the site.

The only reason I gave 4 stars is because no campfires are allowed. Personally doesn't matter to me, but some people are big on campfires. The porta johns were clean. The entire campsite is trash free! No other services. Any car can access the site and there is space for large RVs.

Very conveniently located between Cottonwood and Sedona. Visit Belfry Brewing in Cottonwood and get the Ruben it's amazing!

Super easy access, shared big flat parking campsite, blue restrooms (cleaned). Excellent to crash at nights between Sedona hikes.

This is a small, designated disperced camping site. You can see mountains all around you from here and I'd imagine a beautiful sunset setteling just between the hills. The mountains, hills and brushes offer prolonged shade during the morning hours for an extra hour of staying cool, perfect for those without overnight ac. In the evening you can see the silouettes of the mountains and the nightlights of Clarckdale. The roas to here is passable by all vehicles but the site can have bumpy ground and there arent that many level spots. We passed the earlier camping area on this road and it was full of vehicles, yet this one was empty. All n all a good spot to hunker down for the night.

Tried a few times over the years to make this a comfortable camping spot. It’s great for stop overs but locals live in these lots. There’s a lot of strange activity. Not for anyone looking to listen to the desert noises more for listening to locals pontificating and park right next to your camp.

Great place to watch the sunset! It fills up fairly quickly though and looks like it’s be muddy if there’s rain.

Dirt lot, good for Rv's. Super windy and the grounds too hard for tent stakes, a single tree in the middle. Its a place to sleep. Portapotties available
