      Avondale, Arizona

Located near the meeting of the Gila and Agua Fria Rivers in the southwest Valley, the park includes seasonal wetland or riparian area during our winter and monsoon rains. The majority of the park remains pristine desert, very similar in appearance to the landscape seen by the first settlers and explorers. The Sierra Estrella range, or Star Mountains, was once within the Mexican border, and remained so until the Gadsden Purchase in 1853. Today, many amenities are available to visitors, including the only grass picnic area (65-acres) in the Maricopa County Park System. Show less

      Nice Park

This is a huge park. 1365 sites. Crammed in pretty tight, but fairly clean and very nice staff. Most of the sites are pull thru so that’s a bonus.

Gorgeous secluded town for off-roading & camping

Gorgeous easy dirt road ~27 miles from i17/Bumble bee. (There’s also a much more difficult trail from lake pleasant that requires very experienced off-roading 4x4). Great food and drinks(alcohol) at the crown king saloon and Mimi’s Cafe. There are amazing camping areas just past the main town, and even all the way up near Horsetheif Basin which is about 7 miles past crown king(requires 4x4). There is also an amazing ~30 mile trail from crown king that leads all the way to Prescott called Senator Highway. This also requires experienced 4x4 and like the trail to Horsetheif basin, there are many areas that are only single vehicle width. Amazing weather all year round, but extremely limited travel available while snow is on the ground.

      Beautiful Vista

Very large park with many different levels of camping experiences. From dry camping to full on glamping ! I stayed at Vista Pt. Dry camp. The views were beautiful. I stayed 10 days and as a single women I felt very safe. Security makes it's rounds and you can't get into the park after leaving without your pass. The one thing I would mention the drive up to the PT is rather steep, but there were different sized rigs up there is it is doable. I didn't use the amenities as I was away most days visiting with my daughter who lives in the valley.

DONT WALK RUN!!! A Memory you want to forget!!!

Not sure where to begin. Every part of it was bad. We pulled in to have a gentleman take us to our RV space in the middle of Park models. Showed us the power supply and left. These areas were so small yet there was an entirely different area with nothing but RVs and well over 50 open spaces that could handled a rig that’s 45 feet like ours. It took us 30 minutes to get in this little hole. even the owners of the park models on all sides said they always do this and they don’t understand why. There’s so many spaces that can accommodate our rigs. Why would they put a large rig in a small spot allowing for hazard. I then went to the front desk the next morning to make sure they got my AAA/Sam’s discount. Because my daughter and my husband were on the reservation, they assured me I would get the credit the next day after my husband and daughter finished filling out paperwork. Once registration paperwork was finished, then said it’s too late you’re not getting your credits because the spot is already paid for. The first time I went in there I overheard the conversation in front of me and the poor treatment they treated this lady. I thought for sure she had it coming. only until I was the next one up and they treated me like garbage and zero customer service skills the way they talk down to me. They challenged everything I said. The friendlier I got the worst they were. The trash is on the opposite end of the resort, where you have to drive to each day to dispose of. Concrete next to our space was in crumbles. When my daughter booked reservations they asked the age and how many people. She has three children and listed that in advance. When she showed up, she was told she would have to leave as children were not welcome. They should’ve caught this in the reservation information weeks in advance.. Then they proceeded to tell her they will let us stay for the weekend, but after that, we will not be welcomed back. These are“their exact words. Customer service!! Sometimes it’s not what you say it’s how you say it. Don’t walk run. Worse experience ever.

Crown King Area (Horsethief Basin lake)

      On Top of the World

This majestic spot is roughly ~26 miles (from Bumble Bee) of bumpy dirt roads, steep terrain, switchbacks, and the occasional one vehicle bridge. The main city of Crown King has a general store with essentials and a 1 pump fuel station. Prices are steep so best advised to fill up on gas and supplies before heading up. The Hazlitt Hollow campground and Horse Thief Basin Lake are ~7 miles from the main city of Crown King and definitely require a high clearance vehicle (4x4 highly recommended). Horse Thief Lake is truly a magical place and beyond serene. The lake fish species present include Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Channel Catfish, and Muskie. The weather is very similar to Prescott with an elevation of 6,000 ft. Peaceful, quiet, serene, and soothing all describe this area perfectly.

Good RV park, with lots of amenities

We have a 36’ Class A with a Cherokee Trailhawk tow and stayed for just an overnight in late April. This is a big resort and comprised mostly of permanent residents with a central pull-through area for transients. The sites are gravel and fairly close together, but the CG is clean and“patrolled” frequently by folks on golf carts. If you’re a Class A or C towing, you’ll probably have to drop to to access the hookups, as they are at the back end of the pull-throughs, not toward the middle as they usually are.

AT&T coverage was quite good, with 2-3 Bars of 5G+ service and speeds up to 23 MB/s. The CG WiFi was pretty decent as well, with speeds up to 4 MB/s, but varied depending on congestion.

Awkward and crammed Face to face sites

If you’re a social butterfly and don’t have dogs, this place could work. The sites are really crammed in and on top of that, your door is face to face with your neighbor which makes it so awkward to do anything outside when you don’t want to talk to an overly chatty neighbor. Or if you or your neighbors have unfriendly dogs they can’t be out at the same time. Facilities are decent, same with pool. Adequate dog parks but nowhere for dogs to pee near sites other than gravel.

      Great escape outside Phoenix

Reserved 7 days at Lake Pleasant RV to get familiar with my new camper. Chose the dry site “Vista Point” and at first was a little weary but was pleasantly surprised how many others were doing the same. The views from my spot were pretty epic. Relaxed and fished off the shoreline. Going to have to revisit after doing more research on the fishing here. They do have port a pottys which were actually clean. The convenience store was a cool feature saving me from having to drive 20min to get some drinks. Dillons restaurant smelled delicious but I packed too much food to not cook it up. Didn’t really run into anyone not friendly or in a good mood. I’ll definitely be back here.

      Expensive for dry camping

$26/night - 2 night minimum. You have to pay an extra $10/night to use the bathrooms/showers. Dump station and water fill up included in $26/night

Lake Pleasant doesn’t have pleasant views

Probably a really fun place to stay if you have an ATV. Those are buzzing around all over the place going to and coming from off-roading trails

      Awesome Boondocking experience !

Scott and Kevin have a great piece of property they love To share! Located in a valley of the Bradshaw mountains just about and hour and a half from Phoenix, this is an awesome getaway- away from it all. I boondocked for a couple days and enjoyed the quiet solitude of the canyon, enjoyed hiking, and the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. It’s a rocky dirt road to get here, but my class C rv easily made it- and I’ve taken it in worse roads. Well worth the effort, give this place a try! thanks Kevin and Scott!

      Served us well

We needed a place in or near Buckeye and located this place. Nice bathrooms, hot showers. We were in a Class B close to the entrance so didn’t have any issues with size of sites. Didn’t try any amenities beyond our hookups which worked well, which is why I’m going with 4 rather than 5 stars. -I just can’t rate them.

Friendly, clean and safe Naturalist community

Been going here over 6 years and I always look forward to my visits there in the Summer.  They have 2 pools (one is heated), volleyball, darts, horseshoe, pool tables, hot tub, sauna, nature trails, a cafe open in the weekend, events and tons of other things going on. Most of the people there are permanent or semipermanent residents. It is a comfortable, family friendly community, although you it is rare you see children there. I highly recommend and will continue to bring guests to enjoy some Arizona sunbathing!

      Decent and Cheap

I knew I was coming to a place that wasn’t a destination park, yet I was still shocked by all that was lacking. The spots are spacious, have electric and water, (when working). No WiFi, I was told. This is fine for a stopover, but nothing more. You are right next to a gas station where trucks pull over to sleep. I felt like I was staying in an afterthought or poorly planned place.

Convenient to SE Phoenix area. Far enough from the freeway to be quiet. An oasis surrounded by fields. Clean restrooms, pools, grounds, roads, sites. Nice folks working there. Refundable $20 deposit to get bathroom key. Did not use laundry. Stayed 3 nights. Very open, but a tree between each rig. Not much shade. Full hookups but no CATV. $73 per night. I will. Get curb parked for $27

We stayed here 2 weeks when we were new Thousand Trails members (it came with the RV), but since we showed up the first night at sunset, we were curb-parked that night.. Which is when one of the very lovely security staff there let us know that it's less expensive (for non‐TT members) to get one of those curb spots (with electric, & close access to showers, pool, laundry) than to get a regular spot. So this time, having let TT expire, we tried this out- no reservation (I did call ahead, but indeed, curb spots are unreserved), just show up at dusk or later, and this very nice, truly chill but soo ginormous resort let us park right in the front/middle for the night. And swim. And do laundry. They put cones around us, and said we could put out our slide-out! Checkout's at 11. There's a Jack-in-the-Box .4 miles from where they park ya. We plan to use this again!

Crowded parking lot for RVs, but there are foll hookups, clean showers, and a pool.

Just a basic parking lot with mostly pull thru sites that are pretty level. No seperation between sites so smells, smoke and conversations infiltrate other sites. The bathroom/shower house is clean, and the park is clean as well. It was just too crowded for us.
