Dispersed camping in Kaibab National Forest draws crowds, and Hat Tank is no exception. Even on a weekday in July, finding an open spot can require driving several miles across multiple roads, and some pullouts are barricaded, likely for land rehabilitation. Cell service is listed as available, and the site accommodates big rigs, pets, and campfires. Campers should come prepared with strong insect repellent, as no-see-ums have been a reported problem. Those with flexibility to explore boondocking near Kaibab National Forest may find better odds of snagging a site on less-traveled roads nearby.

Very crowded

Very busy area. Had to drive several miles down multiple roads to find an unoccupied spot on a random Monday in July. Many pullouts are blocked by barricades as well (I'm assuming for rehabilitation).

Misquotes during summer!

The camp site was beautiful but no amount of bug spray or candles keep the small no-see-um misquotes away! They look like gnats but don’t be fooled we were covered in bites and itching hours later. It was insane my dog was covered in millions.
