Forest Road 682

Dispersed camping enthusiasts heading to Grand Canyon National Park will find Forest Road 682 serves as a convenient staging area just outside the park's east entrance. This US Forest Service site sits within Kaibab National Forest, offering multiple scattered campsites accessible by a short drive off the main highway. Most sites feature established fire rings, and the road remains passable for various vehicle types, though campers report some rough patches that require attention.

The dispersed layout provides flexibility for different camping setups, with sites ranging from small spots near the road to larger areas set back from traffic. Garrett B. managed to navigate his 39-foot Class A motorhome to a secluded site, though he notes "there is a decent little hill in the driveway that could cause a problem for a longer-wheelbase vehicle." Cell service proves spotty throughout the area, and some sites show signs of previous use with scattered litter.

Road noise remains minimal despite the proximity to highways, and campers consistently find ample space between sites during most seasons. The area allows campfires, pets, and alcohol, making it suitable for groups seeking a no-frills overnight before entering the national park. Winter visitors encounter fewer crowds and easier site selection, while summer brings more competition for shaded spots along the forest road network.

Many campers appreciated the quiet dispersed camping close to Grand Canyon's east entrance. Site conditions vary, with better spots available further from the road, though some areas show scattered litter.

Easy off Highway 64

Flat area within a few hundred yards of the highway. Did not notice road noise in our camper. Just an overnight after two days in the Grand Canyon.

Usable, but messy

I was just looking for a place to stay before heading into GCNP tomorrow. This works. We were in maybe a 1/4 mile. The site was tiny and there was garbage off in the woods. Too much for me to be willing to clean it up more than a garbage bag. Road was rough but any vehicle can handle it.

Overnight stop

We headed in for a night of dispersed camping before heading into Grand Canyon NP. There were lots of available spots to choose from being January. It was easy to find and the drive in was fairly smooth.
We went in after dark but did some exploring in the morning before leaving. We found lots more sites available, some large, some small. Most having fire rings.
Cell service was spotty but we were camping so it was to be expected.

Nice, quiet place!

Nice dispersed area, no neighbors and lots of space.  Almost zero road noise and close proximity to Grand Canyon South Rim Entrance made for a great stay!  We had no trouble getting our 39 foot Class A back there, but there is a decent little hill in the driveway that could cause a problem for a longer-wheelbase vehicle, so if you're in a bus-conversion 40+ feet long, I'd scout ahead.  You could probably use one of the sites closer to the road and avoid the little hill that we crossed, as an alternative.  We stayed a little further back (35.97408272506218,-111.80320237150028) and had the place to ourselves.

Fine for a quick sleep

Needed a place to stop after the Grand Canyon. This was fine. Not stunning, but campervan friendly, quiet, empty and close. We took the first fork to the left to find shade. Not a stunning spot but super close to the east gate.
