Beautiful state park in Tucson

This is a beautiful park! If you are reserving a campsite, beware! Ringtail loop does not have electricity or water hookup and it is not that easy to tell this on the reservation system. It is just a dirt parking lot for trailers to sit in. There are amazing hiking trails and the nature in this park is stunning, especially the saguaros. The campground fills up fast so reserve early in the year if you want a site with electricity and water.

State Park

We camped in the Ringtail loop which is open to individual camping from January through March (usually a group camping area). It is a big gravel parking lot where they jam everyone in there. Super tight! Decent hiking trails from the park especially Romero Canyon trail. Bathrooms/showers were fabulous.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need reservations for Ringtail Campground, and what are the camping fees?

Reservations are recommended for Ringtail Campground, especially during the January through March period when the loop is open for individual camping (it typically serves as a group camping area during other times). The campground operates on a reservation system, though specific fees aren't detailed. When making reservations, be sure to carefully review site descriptions as the reservation system may not clearly indicate which sites lack hookups. Contact Catalina State Park directly for current fee information and to confirm availability before your visit.

What do visitor reviews say about Ringtail Campground at Catalina State Park?

Ringtail Campground receives mixed feedback about its facilities and layout. The campground's cleanliness is frequently praised, particularly regarding the bathrooms and shower facilities. Many visitors appreciate the beautiful natural setting of the park and highlight the excellent hiking trails accessible from the campground, especially the Romero Canyon trail. The main criticism concerns the campground's layout - described as a basic gravel parking lot with sites positioned very close together, offering minimal privacy. The lack of hookups at Ringtail Loop is another consideration for some campers, though the natural beauty of the surrounding area is consistently highlighted as a major draw.

What amenities are available at Ringtail Campground in Catalina State Park?

Ringtail Campground in Catalina State Park offers clean bathrooms and shower facilities. The campground maintains well-kept grounds and provides access to numerous hiking trails, with the Romero Canyon trail being particularly notable. While the campground itself is primarily a gravel area, the surrounding natural environment is beautiful with excellent opportunities to experience the local desert landscape and wildlife. The park focuses on providing a clean, well-maintained camping environment with basic facilities rather than luxury amenities.

What RV accommodations does Ringtail Campground offer?

Ringtail Loop Campground accommodates RVs but does not provide electricity or water hookups at the sites. The area is essentially a dirt/gravel parking lot where RVs are positioned relatively close together. The space can be tight with limited privacy between sites. While basic for RV camping, the location does provide access to central bathrooms and showers. For RVers seeking a more developed experience with hookups, it's advisable to check if other loops in Catalina State Park offer these amenities, as Ringtail specifically does not.
