Sourdough Creek Campground

Accessible year-round for $20 per night, this BLM campground sits along Sourdough Creek with 43 sites including walk-in tent options and ADA-accessible spots. The rough access road requires careful driving, but campers reach a well-maintained facility with drinking water, restrooms, and a dump station. Sites 13-16 accommodate handicapped access, while spots 19-21 earn frequent praise from visitors.

A walking trail follows the creek through the campground, connecting to fishing areas and a boat launch. Shadara W. notes the site has "wonderfully clean campground with fishing and I loved the walk along the creek access." The layout provides privacy between sites without crowding neighbors together. Bear-proof trash containers and recycling bins help maintain the clean conditions reviewers consistently mention.

August brings heavy bug populations, though the midnight sun compensates with extended daylight hours. Cell service remains unavailable, creating complete disconnection from digital distractions. Firewood sells for $5 per bundle through the on-site camp host. The facility prohibits pets and allows alcohol consumption.

Campers seeking additional options can explore campsites near Gakona or consider Gulkana River Access for a different creek-side experience.

Guests frequently mentioned the clean facilities, private sites, and good value at $12/night. Many appreciated the creek access and walking trails, though visitors should expect very buggy conditions in summer and no cell service.

Average Campsite (probably 3.5/5)

My husband and I were trying so hard to find a camp heading north on hwy 4 all the way from Valdez. The Gulkana River camp ended up not working, so we just kept driving until we found one. Sourdough Creek was fine. Very, very buggy (August), but amenities were average. It was cool to see the midnight sun. We tried to find dispersed camping, so we were sad we had to pay for a campsite.

Very close to water access

This summer there was a lot of construction on the high way, you have to wait for a “pilot” car going the direction you want then you follow the heard.

Great boat access areas
