CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Dry Creek State Rec Area, near Glennallen, Alaska, is a straightforward spot for those looking to unwind in nature. With a mix of tent and RV sites, it’s a decent place to kick back after a day of exploring the stunning Wrangell - St Elias National Park & Preserve.

The campground offers picnic tables and fire pits, perfect for evening gatherings, though some sites can get a bit soggy due to water collection. Visitors have noted the peaceful atmosphere, with plenty of space between sites, making it a great choice for a quiet overnight stop. One camper mentioned, “It’s primitive but relaxing and quiet,” which sums up the vibe pretty well.

While the amenities are basic—think vault toilets and a dump station—there’s drinking water available, and you can bring your pets along for the adventure. Just be prepared for the mosquitoes; they can be relentless, especially in June. As one reviewer put it, “The mosquitos were horrendous,” so pack your bug spray!

If you’re looking to stretch your legs, there are walking trails nearby, and the campground is conveniently located right off the Richardson Highway. Whether you’re passing through or planning a short stay, Dry Creek State Rec Area offers a no-frills camping experience in a beautiful Alaskan setting.

Great overnight stop

The campground has many sites with some pull-thrus. There is a lot of space between sites and there was literally no one there. Stopped in after a weekend of fishing in Valdez and wanted to visit the Wrangell mountain visitor center. I had to backtrack some but it was worth it. It’s primitive but relaxing and quiet. I’ll definitely stop there again!

SiteNothing, just squirrels and the wilderness .

Very wet

We camped here and enjoyed how it was close to town but we still felt like we’re were far out. The sites are okay most of them have the picnic tables and fire pits in low areas where water collects so you can’t really use them

Beautiful trees

There were several available campsites in June. Some pull through. Vault toilets, fire pits and picnic tables. But mosquitos were horrendous.

Good for a quick layover

Small campground with sites close to one another. Right off Richardson Hwy and across from the Gulkana airport.

Pros: group camping, pull throughs, water, restrooms

Glenn Allen Stop Over

A good combo of back in sites and pull through, however a little run down and sad. Pull through site too close together and back in sites were two to a group so side by side.$20 a night, dump station. Cul de sacs site are really wide open but great for a group. No camp host. Wouldn't want to vamp for extended period of time but good for a stop over site.

Wet Creek

Dry it was not! We stopped here in mid-June and there was water everywhere and based on the number of mosquitos it had been there some time. Well maintained. Water available. RV sites, pull through and back in. plenty of tent camping too. fire pits at each site, restrooms and trash dumpsters. some hiking trails too. $20 night. dog approved.
