King mountain

Decent spot with fire pit and picnic table, secluded from others, easy to find and good views. We had a 18ft travel trailer and getting around was easy. The bathrooms were very clean!

10/10!

This is SO clean! Everyone raves about site 13 & 14 but we loved site 24. It was a perfect short walk, less than a minute to the creek. The bathroom near the site is so so so clean. Our family LOVES the host - he manages the campground so beautifully. We’re still new tent campers with 3 young kids and Bob (the host) helped make us feel comfortable and safe. We have a 10 person black out tent and a ram 2500 and I think our site was great for that set up.

Clean, close to the highway, and a great night stay! Pretty level site was a bonus. Boondocking for the night.

Fantastic Hidden Gem!

We stayed here for the night on our way from Anchorage to Valdez w a whitewater rafting trip just up the road in Glacier View. Perfect choice! It was 20 mins away from NovaAlaska adventures in Glacier View and had a really nice river and little walking area (for kids and dogs). It’s bear heavy as most places are in AK but the host was nice and there to greet us. It was a Saturday evening and there were still quite a few sites open. Would definitely stop here again!

Quiet place with amazing views

This is a very nice and quiet campground with amazing views. This is a pretty primitive campground, so don’t expect much for amenities. Our 24’ trailer could have fit most sites without a problem, but bigger rigs would definitely have a harder time finding a spot. No hookups available and no cell service.

Too Small and Overgrown

We drove through King Mountain State Recreation Park in order to get the lay of the land for future camping. We have a 28-foot camper. There were only about three spots worth a darn that would have fit us. This is more of a tent camping only Campground. The camp host was a young guy who could of used a shower and the sites were overgrown and tight some not even having room to park a car although map states they could. We wouldn't choose to stay here as there are prettier campgrounds with more to do.

On the river

We stayed on the river at site 14. The campground host here was nice, helpful and had firewood available to purchase. The camp host asked who we had staying and once he realized two small children he suggested a spot to stay which worked out perfectly. The bathrooms were all close by no matter where you stayed. There was a trail to take a walk by the raging river which was quick and fun. The campsites had a place to park, picnic table, fire pit and playing area. I was surprised by the camp site space.

Rustic Riverside Camping

Our group of 13 bicycle tourists had trouble finding places to pitch tents at this campground because the ground was hard, uneven and strewn with roots and rocks. The campground has no running water, and there is a warning that the water needs to boiled or filtered at the one water pump for the whole camp. No bear/animal boxes are available for storing food or trash securely, aside from using the toilet rooms.

Camping directly on the Matanuska River provides a great view of King Mountain on the opposite bank, and there is a nearby ice cream shop/post office across the street, and a cafe a few miles west on the road for those that want showers or an indoor meal (closes at 6pm though).
