    Maxwell-Gunter AFB FamCamp

    Lovely

Great campground for military, large level sites. Long term sites have covered patios. Full hookup, no wi fi. Laundry rooms, 1.00 to wash and dry, with efficient cycles. Lake with playground and large dog park. Exceptionally friendly staff. Quiet and we'll maintained. Shower rooms available, although have not used. You do hear planes going over but not too loud as some AFB's we've stayed at. Relvery plays at 6:30 am, Star Spangled Banner at 5:00pm, and TAPS at 9pm, not offensively loud, kinda like it. Would highly recommend and will be staying awhile great monthly rates. Great Verizon signal.

    Kountry Air RV Park

    Clean quiet campground

We have stayed here many times when were on the road heading  out for the summer.  We had full hook up, a picnic table & there is a small clean restroom near the pool if needed along with a laundry room & place to sit inside if it's hot out.  They have DVD's and some books we trade them where were there. We only stay a night & stay hooked up to the truck. The owners Gigi & her husband work hard to keep the gardens beautiful, the campground maintained & the pool is so clean & refreshing.  You can get propane here.

We've stayed 3 different time & had a nice site towards the back with a garden on the side.

It's off the beaten path a little but well worth it.

    Great Campground

Reservations made yhe night before online. The campground has not changed nanes yet but will be known as Unhitched Montgomery. Some short time stays and a bunch of long term stays. Clean bathhouse and great outdoor gathering areas, really like "the hangout" area. Pet friendly. Laundry available. It seems secluded but there are a lot of conveniences nearby. Millers Ferry Campground

    Great RV Lakeside Park

Third time at Millers Ferry! Water & electric hook ups . Good water pressure, dump station on property. Our site was paved and easily accommodated our 40 ft Rv/ fifth wheel & Dooley. Each site has a fire ring/with top grate to grill, picnic table, shepherd hook.Bathroom clean another one under construction. Nice playground. $1 for washer and dryer. Lots of sites are gravel as well, but level. Lots of people fish-parking for trucks & trailers at water ramp on property. No dog park, but lots of nature walks and paved roads to walk on. Oh yes, Lots of mosquitoes & ants, bring bug spray for a more pleasant stay! Shopping in town about 15-20 minutes away. Several good restaurants. There is a Piggly Wiggly, True Value Hardware, and Dollar stores. Approx 20-30 min to Walmart, next town over. Public lake for swimming, on site, with playground!

    Gunter Hill Campground

    Great Times

    Great time at Gunter Hill

Gunter Hill Corps of Engineers Campground We stayed 2 nights at Site 27 Full hookups (50 amp electric/water/sewer) $35/night Site #27. is a very long, back-in site, on a level concrete pad, very shady and secluded. The driveway is very long. The Catoma Creek is visible and a short walk just to the rear of this site, affording me quick and easy access to get to a bit of fishing.

The campground is just on the west side of Montgomery, a short drive off of the interstate, far enough away to offer plenty of peace and quiet. We enjoyed lots of walks around the park, getting familiar with the campground while exploring the Catoma loop and the more rustic, electric-only Antioc loop. We were able to put our kayaks in easily as well. The restrooms were slightly dated and dark. No trash pick up, but cans available nearby.

The campground served as a good base to explore nearby Montgomery and it’s suburbs.

    Camp Sherrye on the Coosa

    Great place near family

This is our second stay- had premium site before- they place your travel trailer so the trailers are facing the same way because you can’t back into the premium. . We had a pull through this week- no shade, but C2 had a nice view. We will be back for the month of November.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    We love Gunter Hill!

We are local (30ish miles) but love to just escape here when we have 3 or 4 days and don't want to travel long distance.  Perfect spot to be closer to the river in the summer and in the woods in the fall.  Catoma loop sites are full hookup with concrete pads including both back in and pull through options.  Antioch Loop does not have sewer hookup and these sites are gravel lots but offer some amazing water views.

Guide to Selma

RV parks near Selma, Alabama span the Alabama Black Belt region, characterized by its rich dark soil, rolling terrain, and historical significance in the civil rights movement. Most campgrounds sit at modest elevations of 100-300 feet above sea level, with summer temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F between June and September. Winter temperatures remain mild enough for comfortable year-round camping, rarely dropping below freezing.

What to do

Explore fishing opportunities: Prairie Creek Campground offers waterfront camping with excellent fishing access. One camper noted, "We saw huge paddlefish jumping out of the water, many birds and deer on the nature trail. Bring fishing poles." The campground provides direct water access for anglers looking to catch crappie, gar, and blue catfish.

Visit historic sites: Montgomery South RV Park serves as a convenient base for exploring civil rights landmarks. "It's a quick hop on the interstate to get to Montgomery or Prattville," explains a reviewer who stayed for eight weeks. The park's location allows easy access to the National Memorial for Peace and Justice and the Civil Rights Memorial Center.

Wildlife viewing: The Alabama Safari Park near Hope Hull provides a family-friendly activity. As one Montgomery South visitor mentioned, "If you are trying to burn time with kids, the safari park is nearby and was a great way to burn some energy." The drive-through animal park allows visitors to feed and interact with various exotic species from their vehicles.

What campers like

Level sites: The Backyard RV Resort (formerly The Woods RV Park) receives consistent praise for its well-maintained gravel sites. One reviewer commented, "Gravel roads and pull-thru sites. Stayed overnight while passing through. Convenient to I-65." The park features 105 sites, most of which require minimal leveling effort.

Natural settings: Many campers appreciate the lakefront views available at several parks. At Prairie Creek Campground, a visitor shared, "Sites along the lake tended to be closer together than I like, but with great views. Sites across the street tended to offer a little more space and, in some cases, more privacy." The campground includes walking trails and wildlife viewing opportunities.

Convenient highway access: Peach Park RV Park provides easy interstate access for travelers. A camper explained the straightforward directions: "From I65S, take exit 205, turn left off ramp, turn left onto Bradberry Lane (between Whataburger & Peach Park), RV park on right by lighthouse (no signs)." This accessibility makes the park popular for overnight stays.

What you should know

Ant problems: Multiple Prairie Creek reviewers warn about persistent ant issues. "We were there first week of October," one camper reported, noting they "still was fighting them for 2 days after." Another visitor advised, "Be prepared and you'll be fine."

Limited shower facilities: Some parks have minimal bathroom facilities despite large campground sizes. At Wind Creek Atmore Casino RV Park, a camper noted, "While they only have 18 sites, this is a great layover spot off of 65... Clean restrooms and showers, plus laundry is reasonable at $1.50 per cycle."

Road noise: Many RV parks in the region experience highway noise due to their proximity to interstates. At The Backyard RV Resort, a visitor mentioned, "Can hear Highway and trains outside but didnt bother me inside my RV." Similarly, at Montgomery South RV Park, one reviewer noted it's "right off the interstate just south of Montgomery," but the noise "didn't bother us a bit."

Tips for camping with families

Dog-friendly parks: Kountry Air RV Park provides excellent facilities for families traveling with pets. "They have a nice dog park," mentioned one reviewer who appreciated this feature. Multiple parks in the area accommodate pets but have varying restrictions on breed and number.

Playground access: Several campgrounds offer dedicated children's areas. The Backyard RV Resort includes "a playground for kids" according to one camper who appreciated the family-friendly amenities. Similarly, Peach Park RV Park features a playground alongside its concrete RV pads.

Entertainment options: Wind Creek Atmore Casino RV Park provides family activities beyond gambling. A visitor highlighted that the casino "offers more than gambling… Bowling, arcade, and movie theater on the grounds." These indoor options provide alternatives during inclement weather or extreme heat.

Tips from RVers

Propane availability: Capital City RV Park provides on-site amenities for extended stays. A frequent visitor noted, "Every check in gets escorted to their campsite, guided in, and he personally checks the water hook up and the power pole to make sure it works." While the park doesn't offer propane fill service, staff can direct RVers to nearby sources.

Site leveling requirements: Most parks require minimal leveling but preparation is still necessary. At Wind Creek Atmore, a camper reported, "While they are paved sites, we found that you do have to level out still by around 3 inches." Similarly, at Capital City RV Park, a reviewer mentioned, "The sites are gravel and are mostly level, I believe the most I had to adjust was 1.5 inches."

Reservation policies: Several rv parks near Selma operate on a first-come, first-served basis. At Peach Park RV Park, a visitor explained they "came in late & paid in the AM at Peach Park Express $35 for overnight stay" since "no reservations" are accepted at their 10 available back-in spots.
