    Wind Creek State Park Campground

    Wonderful experience!

The campground was wonderful! So many amenities. Air conditioned bathrooms. Shower pressure and temperatures spot on and clean. Lake beach was wonderful everyone was friendly. Hiking, paddle boats, canoeing, boat rentals, fishing pier, archery, putt putt, and a snow cone truck that came around in the evenings. What a treat. Will do again.

    Chewacla State Park Campground

    Close to Buc-ees and I-85!

I called on Sunday afternoon and immediately connected to a young lady who assured me that a site was available. The loop is nicely designed, full hookups, passing your target on the left (better visibility). There are glamping tents for rent. Several hiking trails, including a waterfall trail are inside the gate checkpoint. The park is close to town, meaning abundance of food options and cheap gas (2.499) on June 6, 2025.

    Chattahoochee Bend State Park Campground

Cabins are definitely the highlight here!

The primitive sites (for tents) were a bit close and not as private as I like.

They offer platform camping and those sites seem a bit more secluded (and are in a separate area from the tent sites).

There are 4 cabins available to reserve and they have great amenities (running water, electricity)

We looked at them once there and think next time we will do this with the kids.

2 rangers live in the park full time and there is a large welcome center/ gift shop with basics for sale should you forget anything.

    R. Shaefer Heard Campground

    Beautiful park

We can’t even get past the fact that this spot is only $30! COE outdid themselves with this park. Site was pretty level and only needed a few adjustments, but it’s so worth it. Private deck overlooking the lake with steps leading down to your private lake front and fire pit. Spacing from neighbors was decent as well. We’ll 100% be back to enjoy this park more.

    Chattahoochee Bend State Park Campground

    You won't be disappointed

Chattahoochee Bend state park is located about 30 minutes west of Newnan, GA. It's located on the Chattahoochee river and is a surprisingly large area. The park has a number of trails for hiking and mountain biking. There are cabins and tent camping sites separate from the rv sites. Rv camping area has large, level gravel sites with water, 30/50 amp electric and cable. Two dump stations help eliminate waiting in long lines when you're ready to hit the road again. Bath house looks like new and is well cared for. On site host is keeping the place in tip top shape. We'll definitely be returning to this park. Highly recommended. Only negative - no cell service while we were there.

Franklin D Roosevelt State Park Campground

    Great Spring Trip

Booked a couple of adjacent sites to explore the area with friends. The State Park is very well maintained, sites offered enough privacy, bathhouse was very clean, and the weather couldn’t have been better. Visited the Little White House State Historic site and enjoyed the Wild Safari and some good B-B-Q.

    Great State park and camping

We were on site 213 and 214. Beautiful wooded site lots of space between sites in this loop. Very short walk to lake. Loop 1 sites are lake front and lake view but more close together than we like. Sites pretty level and gravel. Concrete picnic table, fire ring and light pole with lots of room fir our dogs. Bathroom facilities were very clean, with showers and laundry. Placed well around the campground. Playground but not opened at this time. Lots of hiking trails, pool, can rent canoes and paddle boats on the lake. Dog friendly. Close to Calloway Gardens and little town of Pine Mountain.

Guide to Lanett

Glamping options near Lanett, Alabama include platform tents, upgraded cabins, and specialty accommodations within several state and federal recreation areas. Located along the Chattahoochee River basin and surrounding West Point Lake, the area features numerous tree-covered camping areas within 35 miles of Lanett. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F from June through August, creating ideal conditions for water recreation at the various lakeside properties.

What to do

Fishing from shoreline sites: Amity Campground offers exceptional fishing access directly from campsites. "We've been camping here for years. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT! Just wish the Corps would keep it open all year long," notes one visitor about the lakeside locations. The campground has numerous sites positioned along calm coves ideal for catching bass and crappie.

Hiking natural trails: Multiple dedicated paths wind through the area's mixed pine and hardwood forests. "There is a nature trail within the campground that leads to a marsh where there are duck, owl, and bluebird nest boxes. There are two long boardwalks where you can walk over the marsh," explains a visitor to Amity Campground. Chattahoochee Bend State Park offers additional hiking options with "lots of great hiking. The bathrooms were cleaner than my bathroom at home. The dogs loved the hiking and the river is beautiful with the fall colors."

Water recreation beyond swimming: Beyond standard beach swimming, the lakes offer diverse water activities. At Franklin D Roosevelt State Park Campground, visitors can "rent canoes and paddle boats on the lake." One visitor notes, "We fished and swam, they also had a scavenger hunt that my kids loved doing." Many glamping sites include kayak and canoe rentals, creating easy access to water exploration.

What campers like

Private lakefront positioning: Campers consistently praise the lake access from waterfront glamping sites. "Gorgeous lakeside sites with nice sloping grass down to water. Very peaceful," shares a camper about their stay at Amity Campground. Platforms and premium sites often include dedicated water access for better privacy.

Spacious premium sites: Blanton Creek Campground receives high marks for site layout. "The park is relatively small but it's very well kept. Small rigs can pretty much enjoy any spot but larger rigs need to be sure that the site is level for the length of the rig," notes one camper. Site spacing allows for comfortable outdoor living space at most glamping locations.

Clean facilities: Despite rustic settings, most glamping areas maintain well-serviced facilities. "The bathhouse is heated and has five toilet stalls and four nicely tiled showers with benches," remarks a camper at Blanton Creek. Multiple reviews across properties mention regular bathroom cleaning and modern shower facilities that enhance the glamping experience without sacrificing comfort.

What you should know

Seasonal operation limitations: Not all glamping facilities operate year-round. "It is currently only open from April to Labor Day. We would love it even more if the Corps of Engineers would keep it open all year long," notes a visitor about Amity Campground. Check seasonal availability before booking, especially for water-based activities.

Gate closure policies: Some properties enforce strict entry/exit times. One camper at R. Shaefer Heard Campground warns, "But beware: the gate is locked shut from 10 PM to 8 AM, no exceptions unless the elderly host personally deems your emergency worthy." Arrival timing matters significantly at several locations.

Noise considerations: Lakefront glamping sites sometimes experience water recreation noise. "The lake sees constant activity: motorboats, water skiing, even boats creeping along at night. It's not peaceful water. If you came to paddle in silence or sleep early, this might not be your dream spot," explains a R. Shaefer Heard camper about the reality of popular lake destinations.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds feature dedicated play areas. At Chewacla State Park Campground, "Beautiful hiking, amazing mountain bike trials, and lake swimming give you plenty to do in the park." Another visitor describes the variety: "Nice hiking trails, mountain biking trails, a lake, a waterfall, and cabins. What more could you ask for all in one spot?"

Swimming options beyond lakes: Look for glamping sites with pool access for safer swimming with children. "Very clean and family friendly place. Trading post available for firewood and supplies," notes a Franklin D Roosevelt State Park visitor about the amenities that enhance family stays. Some properties feature dedicated swimming areas with lifeguards during summer months.

Loop selection matters: Family-friendly loops often feature specific amenities. "We camped in campground 5 and from where our site was we could see the playground and also let our kids ride there bikes around the circle that the camp sites where on," shares a family visitor to Franklin D Roosevelt State Park, highlighting how choosing the right location within larger properties improves the family experience.

Tips from RVers

Electrical capacity limitations: RVers should verify power requirements before booking. At Pine Mountain RV Resort, one camper reports, "30 amp circuit was not adequate. The breaker continually tripped while using small kitchen appliances." Premium glamping sites with air conditioning require sufficient electrical capacity.

Site leveling challenges: Many glamping sites require adjustment for comfort. "Spots have a driveway that goes downhill from the camper and others go uphill from the camper which might be an issue for 5th wheels," notes a Blanton Creek visitor. Pack leveling blocks and extension cords to maximize site positioning options.

Wi-Fi considerations: Connectivity varies significantly between properties. "WiFi works great in our section as well if you need that. Speed test showed 10Mbps on my device and I had no issues streaming 4K on a Roku TV," reports a Chewacla State Park camper, though such performance isn't universal across all glamping locations in the region.
