A handful of sites include covered pavilion-style patios where campers can pitch a tent and stay dry during wet weather, which is a genuinely useful feature in Ohio's unpredictable summers.
The campground is small and lightly visited enough that some campers find themselves with the place largely to themselves, particularly outside peak weekends. Bathrooms have been updated in recent years near the group camp area, adding flush toilets, though older pit toilets remain elsewhere on the grounds. Showers are available at the camp store near the reservoir rather than at the campsites themselves, and hot water availability has been inconsistent based on timing. The reservoir itself is modest in size, and as one reviewer put it, "the lake is not really a lake but more of a pond," which sets reasonable expectations for paddlers and swimmers. Kayak rentals are available near the beach.
Equestrian trails run through the surrounding area, and a fire tower gives hikers a climb worth the effort. Walkabout Creek Horsemans Camp and Campground is a few miles north for those who want dedicated horse camping. Reservations are accepted, and the campground accommodates RVs up to 40 feet. Campers wanting a different setup can also look at places to camp around Blue Rock for additional options in the region.
