South Toledo Bend State Park Campground

Stayed at site 12 in a tent.  Had electricity and water, weather a comfort station nearby.  Great paddling and boating on the lake.  Fished a little out of a kayak, but it was a little tough to stay in position to fish.  Caught a few small bream.  Hiked the short nature trail and got a good lakeside view of the dam. 

The spillway side of the dam is great for recreation and makes for a good day trip activity.

The primitive camping here is located on a bluff overlooking the reservoir, which makes for amazing views. However, across the water is an RV park that plays music very loud music with a terrible D.J. and you can hear all day for 8 hours a day, which made our stay less than enjoyable. While this isn't the park's fault, it totally impacts the enjoyment of camping there.

I wish the park would move the primitive camping area to Hippie Hill where the glamping spots are located as that would make it more remote. The other thing is that RVers walk through the primitive camping site to look at the views, thus limiting privacy and the safety feeling with all these people tromping through your quiet area, with their dogs, etc.

This park seems like it would be more enjoyable for RVers and people that own their own boats, as there is a public boat launch and docks to tie up near the RV sites. If you're a tent camper, I would look for another park until RV island, the noise maker is dealt with.

Very wooded and spacious, staff is friendly. Price is very affordable, an absolutely beautiful lake, beautiful area. Rustic but not too rustic.

We stayed early February 2021. Beautiful campground with lots of space in between sites. Roads need some work getting in there and the closest store (gas station) with any necessities is about a 20min drive each way. But we loved the solitude.

Sites were clean, ours had a fairly level pad but the pads aren’t very wide. Ours (site 41) overlooked the water with easy access to the beautiful lake. Great views! They have been and are in the process of clearing trees and brush so the sites look great and there is quite a bit of firewood available to collect. Also offers some sites with decks right off the pad. There are also multiple docks around the site which my children enjoyed fishing from and we docked our kayak at for the week.

Very clean bath houses and laundry (we are full timers so that is always a plus).

We would defiantly return. Great experience

S Toledo is close to home and a great place to camp. Roads not so good. But it has always been a great camping experience.

South Toledo Bend State Park is located near Leesville on Toledo Bend lake. The lake is known for Bass Fishing and is listed as one of the best bass fishing lakes in the country. I’ve also read that the lake has great areas for scuba diving, if you are into that. The park is not far from Fort Polk, and offers nice opportunities for camping, hiking, boating, fishing, kayaking, etc. The campsites are mostly all heavily wooded, and spacious. Plenty of room between sites. They have several waterfront sites with hookups, but the I terror sites were nice also, and most have a lake view. The park has docks for fishing and boat launch, and a fish cleaning station. Theres a nice playground too. There’s also rental cabins that looked really nice. The park was still being cleaned up from hurricane Laura, but was still very nice. The best place to camp I’ve seen around this area!

My family of 5 stayed in site #45 for the weekend. The site had a really nice wooden deck and a lovely view of the lake. There was a short walking path to the dock which we left our boat at with no problems. The bathhouse was extremely clean and air conditioned but hot water seemed to be hit or miss in the women’s. The biggest problem with this park is the roads. I’m used to potholes living in Louisiana but it isn’t ideal for narrow roads with a large camper. Also, when you unhitch from your tow vehicle, make sure you have your chocks down or you may end up in the lake. Pads aren’t necessarily difficult to level your camper but beware of your blocks because your hitch will be sitting on the ground. Another word of advice, try to skip the sites on the loop around site 31. There’s too much traffic and for some reason it looked like there was about 5 cars per camper! Overall we had a good time and will probably return

Would of gave it 5 stars, did not have full hookup. Well maintained campground with cleaned restrooms and showers. Trails were all concrete. Lots of shade. They have a beach for swimming. Lots of fishing and kayaking. Nice place to go RVING.

Primitive campsites are clean, include a picnic table and fire pit, and are nestled on a bluff overlooking Toledo Bend. The park offers a comfort station within walking distance of the primitive sites that includes air-conditioned bathrooms and showers, coin-operated laundry, and water fountains. Multiple trails, a boat launch, fish cleaning station, swimming area, and more! We had a great experience and plan to return as often as we can. I couldn’t expect any more for less than $20/night.

This camp is a wonderful spot to take your family for the weekend. Fishing, kayaking, swimming and outdoor cooking are all ready for you here. Site even had a fish cleaning station to all your catches leftover bits off the ground and keep the smell away from the camping area. Very clean park, extremely family friendly. RV and primitive camp sites here with electric and water.
