Hither Hills State Park Campground

We love this campground because the beach is steps away

Stayed in May, June, and November 2023. The location is its best feature. The beach is just over the dunes. Village Pizza is remarkably good.

Had to take a star off for no hookups. Generator hours are limited. There are spigots located down the middle of the rows. Go on google maps to find a spot near a spigot.

Cell signal varies wildly by spot. B17 no prob at all. G14 spotty. F20 total dead zone.

Bath house on the west side is eh. The east side- beautiful.

I’ve come here a few times with my boyfriend and it is gorgeous. The ocean is amazingly close and the town is a nice bicycle ride away. Plenty of activities near by or beautiful areas to explore.

We try to camp here at least once a year. The beach and ocean is almost at your front door. It’s ocean is beautiful and you can get to see dolphins or whales if you’re lucky. Bathrooms are clean and plenty of hot water in showers. The downside is that the sites go quickly and it’s hard to get one. We usually get lucky with the cancellation notification lists.

Been there twice now, it’s absolutely gorgeous, neighbors are friendly. A walk from the beach, good for families and great accommodations that are clean! No spot is a bad spot here.

We stayed at the new tent area up on the bluff (J section).

Pros: stunning views from the site. Every morning we woke up and watched the whales breaching. The sites are mostly grassy, nice and clean. Nearly no bugs, and just a couple minutes' walk down to the shore. The picnic tables are on a concrete slab, which is nice for keeping things clean. The bathrooms are new and very well-designed, with separate stalls for both toilets and showers, a large sink for washing dishes, and an outdoor sink for brushing teeth etc. There are also a few outlets in case you forget your solar phone charger!

Cons: there are no trees or anything dividing the sites, so there's not much privacy. The J section is right near a road.

One of my favorite places to camp on Long Island. Beach is a 2 minute walk and the campground are right outside town of Montauk . Not dog friendly

The beach is the obvious appeal here, but not a whole lot of character overall. Basically a grass field with picnic tables and facilities. Facilities were clean and high quality.

good management, common areas are very clean, nice showers cleaner than my gym in the city.

bring your own fire pit, there is no pit at the sites. very hard to find spot theu summer though mostly rv’s are occupying the whole campground for long term summer vacation.

We ended up luckily getting a spot because a friend had cancelled the reservation. Must reserve early in the year for summer spots.

It gets very crowded and very little space between sites so be friendly a tour neighbors are 3-5 ft. Bathrooms are a bit outdated but have running hot water and are clean. No camp fires at site but your allowed to have a fire on the beach must follow guidelines. Beach is right over the dunes very clean beach.

There is also great restaurants in Montauk biking is nice to get around.

Overall good place if you have an RV as it’s really hot no tree coverage..

We really enjoyed this campground. We were super lucky to get in for Memorial Day weekend. The beach is great and the staff was very friendly. The camp sites are close to each other with little to no privacy but everyone in our area was nice. There’s a ton of family’s with kids.

Great view and nice beach. Nice place to run and also ride a road bike in the mornings. Few stores close by so you don’t really need to bring raw food.

We had a great time there even though it was chilly when we went (April). The bathroom was clean, and proximity to the beach is amazing. The campsites aren’t so big tho, so you can pretty much hear others around you all the time. But I’d still recommend it. It must be even better in the summer.

All things good must come to an end! You needed to book right at the beginning of the year for these coveted spots, but you can enjoy the beach and set up a BBQ with your campmates. (though nobody does this, I'm not sure why?)

All access to Montauk via taxis and memory motel, pink tuna, and other great bars and restaurants just be quiet when you come back to campsite, as all other residents have gone bye-bye for the night. Just ask my unwanted house guest at 3am. Peace!

This campsite is amazing! I booked it last year a month in advance out of pure luck and it still is one of the best camping trips I’ve had! I loved the area we were in; close enough to the town yet far enough from all the crowds. I loved the beach access & the convenience store at the site. 10/10 would recommend!

great place to camp, need to reserve about 1 year in advance when i went to reserve it

My wife and I are seasoned campers be it front or backcountry. We wanted to take our 6 month old daughter camping for the first time in mid September and wanted to give Hither Hills a shot (this place is notorious for being booked solid months in advance). We stayed at a local motel for one night then tried for a walk in spot the next day. We were lucky enough to get one. The campground is nothing special as it is basically wide open with little privacy. We were initially concerned bringing such a young child with the potential for crying (she was a trooper!) but it wasn't a problem with all the families around with young kids.

There is beach access, a playground, and a general store for things you may have forgotten (tent stakes for instance). It is close to town, the Montauk brewery, Montauk Point, Camp Hero, etc. The star gazing was great too being so close to NYC.

Just north of the Hamptons and south of the tip of long island Mantauk, lies Hither Hills State Park. This place is a great way to experience both at an affordable lodging rate! The usual free hot showers and plenty of camping options just on the other side of the dunes! Fishing galore with a pond and ocean options.

Hither Hills campground is clean, well run and is just one dune away from an incredible stretch of beach. It's also conveniently located to town, Montauk Point and other nearby parks with great views and some cool hikes. The campground has plenty of clean bathrooms, with flush toilets, sinks and showers. There is also a general store that sells most of the necessities, if you run out of something.

The campground is flat and has little shrubbery, and with the crowds that it attracts the sites have very limited privacy. You don't really get the sense of relaxing in nature when you are at your site. However, in a minute you can walk over the dunes and see all the nature you want! Camping here is a great way to spend some time at an awesome beach.
