Quick Trip

Picked up a one way rental RV on the way to Florida. I arrived early afternoon and was met quickly and shown to my spot and helped with all the hookups and “lay of the land” Very easy and helpful.

I mean wow!!

So much going on! They will give free shuttle rides to 3 beaches & downtown Niantic, CT.

We had tried to get a deluxe location and not completely booked. This is the weekend before Labor Day and they were vanishing point the owner / shuttle driver, John, asked us if we would want to move on Sunday after a bunch of people moved out. And we said absolutely because we're going to be here for 3 more nights.

And it is huge and amazing! If you want to pay a little extra for the deluxe request slot 92!

Great amenities, staff and location

Charming, full of wonderful amenities and nice extras. Nice staff, fun coin scavenger hunt, great pool, well stocked store, wide sites, lots of grass/trees and space to stretch out. Missing full hook ups but the staff and overall vibe more than make up for it. Community garden was something we hadn’t seen before - super fun.

Future potential?

We generally only stay in KOAs or similar RV parks when we need showers, laundry, or a dump station. This one was in a convenient location plus many campgrounds had not yet opened for the year when we were there. It had rained for a few days before our arrival and that did not help our first impression as we drove on the rutted and muddy road to our site. There was a sign that improvements are underway, but I am not sure what those planned improvements are and when they will be implemented.

On the plus side:

*Friendly and helpful staff. Not sure why when we are given a map an employee escorts us to our site but that is a KOA thing. Later an employee asked if I wanted help carrying our clothes to the laundry.

* Warm showers (but it did take a while for the water to get warm)

*Brand new pool that was uncovered but it was way too cold in April to use*Sites were spaced a decent amount of space apart (although there is little physical separation). This was helped by the fact that there was no one on either side of us during our stay.

*In season, there are many activities to occupy families (pool, playground, mini golf, daily firetruck rides, complimentary shuttle into the town of Niantic); however, we could not take advantage of most of these.

*Reasonably priced laundry, although the washing machines were smal, and it took two to do what should have been one load. However, the dryers give you 60 minutes so although it took longer to dry, I only had to use one.

On the negative side:

*Unmaintained roadways. The main one was once paved but has not been maintained; others were dirt (and mud after a rain)

*High price for what we received. Not sure if we received an off-season rate but at $87 per night for a water/electric site and not being able to take advantage of amenities seemed high.

*Allowing political flags to be displayed at sites. I understand that on private property, this can be allowed at the owner's discretion, but this was offensive to us.

Again, this is not our preferred type of camping. Initially, I struggled to give this two stars but once the rain stopped, our stay improved somewhat.

NIANTIC KOA

Very nice staff, campground is nice also. Bathrooms could be cleaner. Close to downtown and beaches - campsite offers a shuttle service to most things around which is great!

So fun! Oh

So many activities for kids and family. Well maintained facilities. Kind and helpful staff. No sewer hook up, but they do provide a honey wagon pump service, once, free of charge. They say you can request additional pumps for a fee, if necessary. However, we were not able to be pumped because it was the “pumpers” day off. LOL Hey, it happens. :) They do have a dump station for a DIY.

A fun place to be

You just can’t go wrong with a KOA campground. His place in Niantic Connecticut very close to downtown and the beach which they have a shuttle for. The staff is very friendly, courteous and knowledgeable of the area. Plenty activities for adults and kids and they are putting in a new swimming pool which will be up middle of July . They have spaces for 10 sites and up (I would call to see if you can fit if you have a larger rig ) very easy to get to write off I-95 even though you’re close to I-95, I could barely hear the traffic. I heard, crickets and birds before traffic.

Quiet and peaceful

Very friendly and helpful staff. The grounds are clean and well kept. Mini golf, bounce house and tot lot for kids. Close to level parking pad, with table and very nice brick firepit. Sites not too close together. I had woods behind me. I would definitely camp here again.

They try hard

This campground is undergoing a much needed upgrade. The sites are very small with limited grass. The staff is very friendly and tries hard to make it fun for the kids including icecream socials wagon rides and a coin hunt

Not What We Were Expecting

The campsite wasn't as expected or advertised as completely wooded behind our site. There was a wine store behind us with a nightlong glaring light and other sites had new construction behind them without screening. The bathrooms lacked soap and could have used some cleaning. The selling feature would be location, close to trails that led to the beach and close to town and the town beaches.

Nice stop

Nice campground, friendly people and staff. Really nice that you can walk to the trails/beach and Rocky Neck. Bathrooms could be nicer, but not bad. Would stay again.

Great KOA

On our way to Maine we wanted a spot off 95. Check in was a breeze. Sites are very large and spaced out for privacy. The staff was friendly and helpful. If your heading North or South through CT this is a good stop over.

Family Friendly and Well Organized

I'll be honest. This was my first RV camping experience. This KOA Niantic CT location is about 2 hours from home. It was the perfect place (not far from home) to practice. The checkin was quick and organized, the rules were clear the hosts were very organized and the staff were attentive. They give every family a free newspaper every day. The price was definitely fair for unlimited wi-fi, electricity and water. There is an on-site store for convenience. The nearest grocery store was in another town more than 5 miles away.

Fellow campers were respectful and went about their own business. The facilities were kept tidy including the baths and showers. I was pleasantly surprised. The best part of this campground was the proximity to the state beach via a well kept hiking trail. We learned a lot about camping and each time we will get better and better.

My only regret is we didn't have a car. Some sites were a bit too far or too dangerous to bicycle (the roads were curvy and didn't have much of a shoulder) so we spent money on Uber/Lyft to visit a few local sites for example to rent kayaks to explore the inlet and river.

I was happy with my experience and I'd definitely go again.
