Where the Ashley National Forest meets the Flaming Gorge area, Kane Hollow provides dispersed camping along gravel access roads. This US Forest Service site sits about 12 miles from town, offering both drive-in and walk-in options for campers willing to navigate potentially muddy conditions during wet weather.

The camping area spreads across open terrain with scattered trees, featuring multiple spots that extend back from the main access point. A vault toilet serves the area, though campers should plan for no water, fire rings, or tables. Cell service reaches this location, which may contribute to its popularity among visitors. During hunting season, the site often hosts pre-staged trailers that can limit available space for other campers.

Road conditions require attention, especially for those hauling larger rigs. "The one concern would be during rainy season it is muddy and if hauling a rig it can get suspect," notes kim H.. A small pond forms in the field during wetter months, and campers seeking more privacy can follow roads deeper into the forested areas away from the busier open spaces near the entrance.

The no-pets policy and free camping make this spot work well for hunters and campers comfortable with basic dispersed conditions who don't mind sharing space with seasonal users.

Be careful during rainy season!

This is a great area with many spots. (We didn’t go all the way back). The one concern would be during rainy season it is muddy and if hauling a rig it can get suspect. Use caution. Beautiful area with nice vistas and a little pond.

Nice area with a toilet!

Kane hollow is right off the FS paved road #18, there is a small sign at the turnoff. This dispersed area actually has a nice vault toilet. However no trash dumpsters, water or fire rings and tables. Area is large enough for 5-6 groups. Cell signal for ATT also. Verizon was extended network only.

Land of empty fifth wheels

This is a free dispersed area and I was there in August and the site had about 6 trailers that seemed to allow be pre- staged for the hunting season. No tow vehicles or people around. Same situation at any other free dispersed site on the Ashley NF above the town of Vernal Utah. This site did have a vault toilet, but no water, fire rings, tables or trash cans. However, cell signal was good so maybe that'll is why this site seems popular. Three stars due to the vacant TTs hogging sites.

Lots of People

This area always has alot of people camping here. Has a small pond in the field on wet months. Very Open area has a bathroom facility. Just off the highway I suggest following the road farther into the trees if you would like to be more secluded as the open areas get pretty busy.
