With sites accommodating RVs up to 53 feet and hookups for 20, 30, and 50 amp service, Jim Moss Arena Campground operates as a private facility 20 minutes outside Riverton. The property charges $35 per night and accepts reservations, though campers should prepare for rough road access leading to the grounds.
The campground sits on sandy terrain with scattered scrub vegetation typical of central Wyoming. Sites provide electrical hookups, and select spots include water connections, while a community water spigot serves other campers. A dump station operates near the property exit for waste disposal convenience. The facility maintains rustic but clean shower buildings, and a large gathering area features fire pits, grills, and picnic tables for communal use.
Hosts live on-site and greet arriving campers, often providing setup assistance and directions to facilities. The property's resident dogs roam freely but remain friendly toward visitors and their pets. "The hosts are amazing. They bend over backwards to make you feel welcome and comfortable," reports Nancy C.. WiFi service extends across the grounds, with hosts installing signal boosters when needed.
The Wind River Mountains rise 45 minutes away, offering hiking opportunities including a 3.4-mile waterfall trail along river canyon terrain. For additional supplies or dining, campers can find camping near Riverton and access to town services within a 20-minute drive.
Description
We have 50 acres - our nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile away. Our campground is our home - we are not commercialized. When you stay at our campground, you are family! Our guests are spread out and there is plenty of room big rigs. All of our sites are pull through.
We purchased our property because of its location - nestled in the valley with the Wind River Mountain Range to the West and the Owl Creek Mountain Range to the North. It is located just off the beaten path - so, it's very quiet, private and safe. Many of our guests are on their way to or from Yellowstone and the Jackson Hole area. Some of our guests will camp at our place and take day trips to places nearby - Thermopolis, Dubois, Lander, South Pass City, etc!
In 1983, Jim and I purchased our property - which, was simply a bare piece of ground with lots of sagebrush. We built our arena first, started hosting team roping and barrel racing jackpots (our last event was held in 2017 - due to Jim's health issues). The 2017 Great American Eclipse was a game changer! We were dead center of the path of totality. We opened our place to guests. It turned out that our place was ideal for viewing the Eclipse! We really enjoyed hosting guests that came from 10 different countries and 22 different states - we enjoyed it so much we decided to turn our place into a campground - hence the name Jim Moss Arena Campground! We have met so many wonderful people and we absolutely love hosting guests!
