very dispersed & off grid

pulled in pretty late at night but found a riverside spot within first 5 mins. the dirt road goes for quite some distance & is all around a gorgeous spot! there are free range cutie cows along the road and I even woke up to a small herd by the tent which absolutely made my morning. no service but fairly close to Jackson which has everything you could need to restock on. some pretty gnarly potholes but overall a really well maintained road.

Cliff falls trail

Camped at the end of the service road. There was an outhouse to use at the trailhead. Woke up to cows at the campsite! A horse trailer rolled up to take some people on a ride. The cliff falls trails is amazingly beautiful with changing landscape around every bend.

Quiet and convenient

Nice spots along the river. The road in isn't too bad. There were several other campers around but we managed to get a nice spot on the river. Amazing stars at night. Friendly neighbor stopped by with three delicious breakfast burritos in the morning.

Good spot

A little ways out of town, making it quieter. Big open space for RVs and big trailers. Road is a bit rough but just go slow. Do not need 4x4 or high clearance. Some spots are still muddy considering that the snow is still melting off. I parked my crosstrek in a corner near a creek and didn’t see or hear anyone.

Easy camping

We chose this site for easy access outside of Jackson as we were arriving later on a weekend. The road was great (but people were driving pretty fast so kept the dogs close).

The sites were pretty spaced out with many along the creek. Some of the pull outs had multiple areas to camp within. There were some pullouts in the trees along the water that looked cool, but were taken. Lots of bugs!

Beautiful, quiet, easy access

Super quiet, every site is large and far away from other sites so you feel alone. Amazing views. we sat just by the river for dinner and saw some wildlife as well. The gravel road was accessible for our minivan.

Excellent Access right off main highway

Long road that has about 20 sites or more. Most are near the river. Some are very large and flat. We saw quite a few 5th wheelers parked in the first few miles where the road is flat and suitable for a sedan. Sites are very far apart, and unmarked but easy to find. The farther you drive in, the road gets worse which either filters out folks or forces you to turn around depending on what you are driving. Free. No facilities.

Stream, timber, mountains, and space, plus it's free.

Great spot on forest service road. Able to park right next to the creek. Lots of spots on the road with fire rings. Free dispersed camping with a great view of the mountains. Hiked to the top of the mountain on the left side coming in. Great views of the valley from the top. Our spot was spot on level, no need to unhook the TT from the truck.

Siteright side of road on way in next to creek.

Beautiful spot!

First the pluses ~ breathtaking Views, wildlife viewing (moose, deer, elk, whooping cranes, etc), bring your binoculars! large spots to spread out and camp. The spot I’m in has zero shade, but it’s been raining/sleeting/snowing most days, and cool the rest, so it wasn’t an issue in late May.

The down side is the traffic! It’s quiet by 10pm, but it’s hard to believe how many vehicles go whizzing by on this forest road. Yesterday for 2 solid hours in the evening it was non stop cars ~ and they drive so fast, tons of dust. And this is a regular occurrence. I’ve been here 7 days so far.

The other down side is zero cell service here. You will have to drive into Jackson to get service, which is fine as they have all the amenities you’d need, laundry, shower, fuel, groceries, firewood.

I would definitely come back here next time I’m in the area! Probably pick a more private spot with shade next time tho!

Great stop for one night!

We camped here the end of July on a Tuesday on our way to Yellowstone. It was the perfect site and loved that it’s free. We set up our tent well after dark about a half mile before the coordinates listed on the left hand side of the road. It had a big pull through spot and a campfire. There was another tent across the road and their spot had more privacy than ours. I would definitely stay here again. It was quiet and we had no issues with animals. Only a few cars were heard at night. No cell service at all until I was near Jackson (Cricket Wireless).

beautiful & peaceful

one of the most gorgeous places i’ve ever camped. no service (at&t) but the view is unbeatable. the campsites are nestled in a valley along cliff creek and have plenty of shade and water access. it is in an open range pastureland, so there were some early morning bovine visitors. 10/10 will be camping here again

Large dispersed areas, next to creek - beautiful!!!!

I showed up around 11 pm on a Thursday and found an open spot not too far in. Road, as far as I went, was an easy dirt road. I just set up shop real quick and went to sleep with the sound of the creek running. Woke up to the birds. There were a few spots tucked away it looked like, but the first spot I found (maybe 4-5 spots in?) I took. Not sure what's further back, but I'm sure it's great! There were a few big groups set up, looks like a fun place near Jackson to have as base camp. I didn't have any cell service. No amenities as I could tell, but not too far from civilization, and it's so beautiful.

Gorgeous!!!

Of the 8 dispersed sites we've used in the past couple weeks, this was by far the nicest and had the best scenery. I'd almost drive there again from St Louis just to lay under those stars in that picturesque valley. Plenty of sites with room to spare. If you're in the area, STAY HERE! You can thank me later.

Beautiful spot right on water

We drove in from Jackson Hole at about 5pm, and immediately found multiple spots that were right on the water with nice fire pits. We chose to drive about a half mile in to find a spot and tent camp. We then walked about another mile down the road before encountering snow. There were ruts in the road but easily possible for my Nissan Rogue to get over and other cars as well. There were lots of open spots with privacy and no snow. It did get down to 15 degrees Fahrenheit over night, so pack warm.

Free dispersed camping close to Jackson Hole, WY

Hi Campers!

We stopped in this part of the National Forest on our way to Yellowstone by way of Jackson Hole, WY. The access is off of HWY 191. You turn West onto Cliff Creek Rd/Forest Rd 30530 and follow Cliff Creek to many dispersed coming sites.

This is open range so be aware that there are cattle grazing. Plus, it is of course bear country...so know how to stay safe!

We stayed here one night so that we could get on the road again in the morning. We found a nice secluded site. It was pretty close to the creek (there are closer sites but they were taken already) and you could easily walk there to get into some fly fishing.

Our photos are from driving and getting close to the camping area. When we got there it was pretty close to getting dark (just one photo from the site) and we left really early to get on the road.

We'll stop here again if we're in the area! Can't beat free dispersed camping!
