What to do
Enjoy water recreation: At Chute Pond Park, visitors access multiple water activities including kayak rentals. "There's lots to do the whole weekend whether you want to go hiking, fishing, boating, small cliff jumping, or take a walk to slippery rock. This year they also have now available kayaks for rent at $20 per hour," notes Makenzie S.
Explore unique water features: The Marathon County Dells of the Eau Claire Park features dramatic rock formations and small waterfalls. "The most epic part of the place is the Eau Claire river with the rocks and mini water falls. Spring time the water is usually high and the breakup of ice happens it's amazing to see. It's crazy loud too!" explains Raechel S.
Trail riding options: While equestrian camping near White Lake, Wisconsin is limited, several campgrounds provide access to extensive trail systems. The Embarrass River Campground and ATV Park connects to woodland trails where visitors report wildlife sightings. "You can bring your ATV to ride on the ATV track there or on the trails in the woods. We seen deer while riding through the trails," shares Matthew J.
What campers like
Secluded natural settings: Many campers appreciate the privacy at regional campgrounds. "The campground is a bit rustic but well separated from neighbors. Clean sites and the shower house was very clean with ample parking," reports Jeremy B. about Chute Pond Park.
Riverside camping spots: Sites along waterways provide both recreational access and ambient sounds. At Embarrass River Campground, "My favorite sites are on the river as its relaxing and comforting listening to the fast moving stream especially at night," writes Matthew J.
Music festivals and events: The Green's Green Acres Campground hosts regular music events. "While it may not look like much from the road in the approach, as the photos and some of the signage suggests, this camp is largely centered around music. A local staple, many regular and occasionally irregular music festivals are held here," explains David K.
What you should know
Primitive camping options: For those seeking minimal amenities, Underdown Campground provides truly basic sites. "No running water, no bathrooms, no crowded plots. It's as primitive as can be. Very ample space except near the water. Multiple small lakes around the area. Can set up camp anywhere but the road really," explains Wade W.
Seasonal timing considerations: The Marathon County Dells of the Eau Claire Park operates May to October with varying conditions. "In the summertime you will see people all over the rocks swimming/sun bathing/having picnics/weddings/photo shoots…. You name it. The weekends are busy there all summer long," cautions Raechel S.
