Lone Pine Campground at Dodridge County Park

Welcome to Doddridge County Park! Doddridge County Park was founded in 1972 as a 57 acres park and has since grown to an over 250-acre park. The Park is situated in a natural setting in the heart of North Central West Virginia. The Park has grown and added many features over the years that provide people with fun and challenging visits. With picnic areas, playgrounds, pool and sports courts the Park can entertain from the youngest guest to the oldest. Each year The Park welcomes visitors from over 25 different states.

In 2012 the Doddridge County Park was gifted over 180 acres from Lone Pine Operating, LLC that helped expand it toward its present size. This gift spurred the Park Commission to begin a master planning process that culminated in 2014 with a plan to add several amenities to the Park. Planned upgrades include; an RV Park, tent sites and yurts that will form the foundation for Lone Pine Campground at Doddridge County Park. Additionally, hiking and biking trails, zip line, stream access for kayaking and canoeing, and a disk golf course were laid out. After adoption, the plan was launched in 2015. Over a six to eight-year period ending between 2020 and 2022 the Park will be transformed into an outdoor enthusiasts’ playground.

        In need of TLC

Narrow roads getting to state park. Campground in need of an update and targeted maintenance. Ensure your rig can fit into your selected site prior to booking as sites can be small and hilly. Sites are asphalt. Not many sites are level. Most patrons seem to be local - weekends full of loud music and drinking.

        Family Fun at Old Campground

This campground has been around since the 1800s. It has a lot of permanent residents and we had a lot of fun checking out the different set ups.

There are a lot of amenities but they need updated. The playgrounds need replaced. The activities building had a pool and game room area, which we used a lot. These were dated as well but our kids had a blast and that is all that matters.

Everyone we engaged with at the campground was very pleasant. We went midweek so it was not very crowded other than the permanent residents. The park is very quiet.

We did a couple day trips down to Pomeroy, which is a nice little river town with ice cream, playgrounds, and shops less than five miles from the campground.

        Great local campground

We stayed there years ago. Our only complaint was how close the sites are together. Some are down over banks & some are on a slant. It was rather noisy when we were there too. Nice beach area for swimming though!

        Surviving Storm

We booked this trip last minute on Memorial Day weekend and literally took the last site reservable. The place was crowded and our corner was as crowded as anywhere. The people beside us had way too many cars that made it a little tough to back in. The 5 dudes standing around helped us navigate their vehicles but it was annoying. Later the guy brought us over some whiskey and beers, maybe as an unstated apology.

The CG itself was very family oriented and our site was a good size. We went swimming in lake two days and drove down to Flatwoods for some of the best ice cream you can find at The Spot (UFO and alien sighting location lol).

A huge storm rolled through with 40/50 mph winds. We had a little heads up thanks to buying a day of WiFi but most people were caught flat footed. We saw 30 plus awnings and canopies destroyed. Power went out for entire last day but we were fine. No rangers or park folks let us know anything but that was fine.

I’d recommend c1-c5 if you have kids.

        Great Amenities

After years of tent camping, this was our first camping trip with camper our and two youngest kids. When we stayed it was cold outside but we had full hook up and were prepared.

We had nice view of the lodge. The lodge amenities are top notch with a heated pool that only costs a a daily charge to use on top of camping. The campsite itself was a little pricey with the only thing distinguishing the campground being lodge activities you have to pay for.

        I’d recommend sites 1-5, 20, and 39.

        Doesn't get much better!

This is a great campground! I came here in June with my wife, daughter, and my parents. My wife, baby, and I stayed in a tent only campsite while my parents were in a pull through RV site.

This place is huge! There is so much to see and do. But because of this size, I would not recommend walking the campground or even using a bike to get around. I say this because on top of it being very large and spaced apart, it is also very, very hilly. You'll find yourself either having to drive your car or rent a golf cart.

The staff was pretty nice and helpful. We even met the owner. She was nice to talk to.

The camp store was a bit of a letdown, a lot of knic knacks, and not many actual camping supplies. The pool was small and very, very cold well maintained. The mini golf was fun, but unlike other campgrounds I've been to, you have to pay for it. The ice cream store was also satisfying.

The campsites themselves are roomy, plenty of space! Ours even had an amazing view of the small airport and surrounding hills. The restrooms were alright, about average for a campground. But they seemed to be cleaned every day.

The beach was nice, we definitely enjoyed it. Also, make sure to stop by serenity point for sunset. You won't regret it!

I would recommend either bringing your own golf cart or renting one. But make sure if it's electric, you book a site with a hookup to charge the cart when not in use.

All together, this is a great place. We will hopefully be back!

Remeber to check in at Days Inn

Our stay was for one night on a travel day to another location. Campground is clean and well-maintained. My wife read a review that mentioned check-in is in the Days Inn signage is small and if we didn’t know we needed to check-in at the hotel we would have missed it. This campground is labeled as a journey but with the addition of amenities at the Days Inn this is a great place for a couple of days. Very dog friendly.

Besides the price, this place was great

Everything the other comments say about the price is true, but that aside this KOA is great. It is set back behind the hotel and far from the interstate. Our site was very large. The entire place was full of trees! So different from other KOAs!

The showers each had their own private door, and there was a hotel free ice machine at the bathrooms! It was super quiet during the week.

        Great family camp ground!

Our family loves to camp at this local campground, super clean bathrooms and pool with kids area is so much fun. We had the best time when we camped at there for the fair, it was right next to the campground.  Only downfall is if it rains the end lots get really muddy.

2022 sewer flies have taken over restrooms

We could not use the restrooms and our rv doesn't have one, so we used the portapotty beside the boat ramp. We called the office and they sprayed but the flies just moved down into the pit farther. Shower houses very clean. Staff very nice. One site has great wifi access but I'm not telling which one. 😄

        Spacious

Mountain Lake Campground is a large campground with four different main sections. All of the spaces that we saw seem to be quite spacious, and many of them are shaded at least in part. The staff was friendly. There was a delicious ice cream shop on the property. The walk to the lake or the pool and main building was quite a trek. The pool was warm, but not cloudy and a bit dirty. There were three nearby playgrounds (but they had some broken parts) and a basketball court.

        Great resort!

I gave this a three star and they removed my review.

So even though I went to super detailed information in my last review I'm just going to say do not believe the five star that I put on this because this is indeed a three star resort it is a journey not a holiday and it is overpriced he would be better to stay at a budget hotel that I will not name the name because maybe that's why they deleted this review

        Bad for tents

Went there in October. No attendance around and not many campers. Sites are very bad for tent camping and not the bet for RV’s. Back ins are sort and most sites have no level ground even for the picnic table or fire ring. Showers were clean but cold. Vault toilets only and stuck to high Heaven. Not serviced well at all. Hiked the lake view trail, poorly maintained. The upper loop from the beach end is very hard to find and not marked at all. Even more disappointing than Hope Lake which has its own site problems for tents.

        Ok for a KOA

We prefer state parks but had to stay here at a KOA because of availability (Labor Day Weekend). My biggest complaint with KOAs is the tightness of the sites - this one was not bad. They had concert pads for the picnic tables (loved that). But we were in the first loop and we were far from the shower house - only one for the whole campground. Now we did have full hookup - but there are 6 of us that need showers after a day of hiking.
We went to New River Gorge and hiked all day. The Rim and the Bridge were only 1 hour away. One of the hiked we did was 1.5 hours away - but we enjoyed it. Go see the Flatwoods monster and the Dam. Nice small town in beautiful West Virginia.

        Forked Run State Park Campground

        Nice park, neglected on maintenance

We had read about the quietness of Forked Run and it was we had a loop all to ourselves and only about 15 campers in the whole campground,

It was very clean and the areas coming into the campground beautifully maintained, but once we got to our campsite it was covered in trash, cigarette butts, beer cans and tons of candy and straw wrappers, the woods behind each campsite was loaded in trash, toilet paper and feces.

After a few hours we had our site pretty much cleaned up, but on our walks we noticed more sites looking the same.

Shower house was clean, but after visiting a pit toilet and fighting of hundreds of bugs I noticed the pit toilet was almost overflowing, yes overflowing. As many as I have used I have never seen one so full which explains why everyone was crapping in the woods.

If you want internet bring a WiFi and a booster and you will be good.

No available park ranger, in facts serious accident happened at the front gate and victims waited for EMS to arrive, if a ranger was on duty help could have been faster.

Kayaking was great with some hidden coves.

Other than that it can be a beautiful park, Ohio ODNR you should be ashamed of yourself for the way this park is kept.

        Away but close

This site is tied to the hotel and you must park at hotel prior to entry. There are pull-in sites with full site hook ups at location. The views once hooked up are gorgeous but this is a tight fit especially for those with slides.

        Two things I loved:

        1. Very clean well maintained site with beautiful views

        2. Nice scenic place to walk

        One thing I didn’t like:

        1. You have to go in the hotel to get in? So parking could be challenging on a busy day to get in.

        Quiet mountainside camping

Great little campground in the middle of WV. Just off Highway 79 but far enough away you feel like you are in the wilderness. The campground has 4 distinct areas for rigs which keeps it from feeling it is a RV parking lot. Most sites are pull through with full hook ups. You check in at the hotel and proceed up the hills to your site. Because it is associated with the hotel, most hotel amenities are available for campers. Very quiet and peaceful site. The section for sites 1-10 is the shadiest section. You are minutes drive to lake Sutton. Easy site has a table, a grill and a fire ring. I enjoyed my stay.

        Easy to find

Clean grounds and easy to find from the interstate. Small park and outdoor pool. The laundry rooms and washhouse were extremely warm but otherwise okay. Free ice machine.

Good Verizon signal but WIFI at grounds is pretty much not existent. Pull through sites with a cement slab, picnic table, and a small grill.
