Atkinson Flat Campground

Fishing, stargazing, and river access draw campers to Atkinson Flat Campground, a US Forest Service site set within Wenatchee National Forest outside Leavenworth, Washington. The last four miles of road turn to dirt and can collect large puddles after rain, so lower-clearance vehicles should check conditions before heading out. Sites are uncrowded in September, cell service is reportedly close by, and a vault toilet is on-site. Nightly fees run around $15. Mosquitoes can be heavy in summer. Trains pass near the campground, so light sleepers should plan accordingly. Several other campgrounds line the same road, including Nineteen Mile Campground — Okanogan Wenatchee National Forest and Schaefer Creek Campground, giving campers backup options if sites here are taken.
