Managed by the City of Tacoma, Rocky Point Campground sits on Alder Lake with approximately 25 sites offering electric and water hookups. The campground features paved roads and direct access to a boat launch, making it convenient for anglers and boaters exploring the lake. A steep, high bank separates the camping area from the water, with lake access available only through the boat launch area rather than directly from campsites.
The campground operates year-round with a camp host who maintains the facilities. "Clean and Dan, the host, takes good care of you," notes Janae M.. The boat launch area accumulates wood debris, limiting swimming opportunities, though the main launch remains functional for watercraft. Campers report the facility stays less crowded than other area options, particularly during shoulder seasons when occupancy drops significantly.
Standard amenities include restrooms, drinking water, picnic tables, and fire rings, though on-site showers are not available. The nearby Rocky Point - Alder Lake Park - Tacoma Power campground provides shower facilities within a short drive. The location serves as a practical base for Mount Rainier visits, positioned along major access routes. RV campers appreciate the level, paved sites and reliable hookups, while the boat launch proximity appeals to fishing enthusiasts targeting Alder Lake's waters.
