We love this campground and camp here about once a month. The sites are large with lots of trees. One loop has electricity (no water or sewer hookups but has a dump station) and the other does not. It has 6 very clean individual (one person) bathrooms with a shower in each. The riverfront accessed from the campground tends to be a bit too raging for my taste with children. We usually take the kids to the lake at Nolte state park (approx. 3 miles away) for water play. This campground is heavily patrolled by the park rangers. I usually have contact with them in my campsite at least twice a day( not for any reason)I have had a fellow parent dropping their child off to camp with us and within 10 minutes the rangers were there checking that they had a park pass. I have been asked by the park rangers at 10:01 p.m. to be quite at as myself and three 9 year old girls were talking (no music etc) too loud. I have also seen the park rangers call in the King County Police. I have never felt unsafe or had any unpleasant experiences here but the park rangers mean business. My point with this is, if you are a large group, like to stay up late and listen to music and/or party it might not be the campground for you. At times I have felt slightly annoyed with all the patrolling. However ultimately as this campground is so close to town I know it’s these efforts that keep the campground safe and pleasant. Thank you!! park rangers I’m sure it is a tough job.
Nothing to complain about but nothing special. It’s clean, convenient but not much else. It is nicely paved so good for roller skates etc. The bank is very steep/high so no access to lake from campground. There is access to the lake through a gate in the campground that leads to the boat launch. That area really is just for boats. The area off to the side (away from the boats)of the launch is filled with tons of wood debris so not good for swimming or playing in the water. If you had a boat the launch is very convenient to the campground and I saw a lot of people fishing on the lake. If you are looking to swim I highly recommend driving to the main campground. Also there is another review on the site that talks of kayaking to an island from this campground which is great information (and not sure there is anywhere else you can post good off the grid camping) but not it’s not really relevant to this campground.
This campground is the picture of a what you expect in the PNW, lots beautiful trees and shade. When looking to book this campground I kept reading complaints about the road noise. To be honest I thought the complaint of road noise was a little silly as that is always the trade off when located conveniently off the hwy. However it was so much worse than road noise. The sites that were adjacent to the hwy were so exposed and close, it was almost like camping on the shoulder. We didn’t camp in any of those spots as our campsite was adjacent to the river but I felt sorry for the people who did. The sites actually didn’t look safe from the cars on the hwy, to me. Most of the other campsites were perfect, large with lots of trees and privacy. There isn’t any access from the campsites to the river as it has a very high/steep bank. If I had small children (walking but under 4) I wouldn’t stay in the sites directly along the river. The embankment is easily accessible, very steep and unstable in spots. Access to river is from trails on the edges of the campground. The river access has a few tiny spots to play in the water but mostly the river current is too strong and fast for playing in.
