Really nothing special about this spot other than the fact that its close to the parks and free. No OHV needed to get to this spot, unlike other BLM sites in the area. Everything is out in the open so make sure to clean up after yourself and bring lots of water. I found a litte area with a fire ring already made. Good for car camping, tents, or smaller rigs.
We were trying to stay at Collegiate Peaks Campground but it filled up on a Friday afternoon so we back tracked to Avalanche TH and found some dispersed spots actoss the street. An easy to find camp right off the road with a few different entrances and a creek running alongside. Everyone else had the same idea so it can get pretty crowded and be prepared for some louder groups at night. You’ll be passed by cars on the road at any time but the speed limit is low so it’s not too bothersome. There’s a bathroom across the street at Avalanche TH if needed. Theres plenty of fire fings there but keep in mind the fire regulations! Dont forget to clean up after yourself and bring bear containers!
Stayed here before climbing Mt Shavano in the morning. Had no problem finding a spot to set up. Lots of bikers, trailers and hunters. Some cows hanging around too, but they don’t mind sharing the space. The road can be rocky in some spots but if you go slow and watch where you’re going it’s easy- saw some sedans out there just fine
Took this trail in the off season at the end of Sept when you don’t need a permit. A lovely lake with a handful of dispersed sites at the lower lake. Be careful of wildlife and bring a bear can, a moose came by our camp around sunset. Got super windy in the morning so we had to leave early
9 sites and a vault toilet. Free with the Discover Pass. Not a ton of privacy from other camps, but a fun spot to lay down for the night.
About 15 spots just off Hwy 101. Cute little walk down to the creek, but you definitely still here the road nearby. Free with the Discover Pass so make sure to grab one before arriving! Remember to clean up your trash please!!
Was the only one here on a Thursday night, but decided to car camp due to the cold. There are about 5 sites with rock fire pits and a decent amount of space. A nice quiet place to spend the night even if you’re not trying to hike
Drove in with no expectations, but the view of the lake is beautiful. Only one other person in the whole camp at this time of the year so it was quiet. Clean and Dan, the host, takes good care of you! An easy stop right off the highway
We spent 2 nights here in between trips to Yellowstone and Tetons due to winter road closures. Great spot to hang out outside of Rexburg. Each site has a fire ring and plenty of privacy. Toilets are operating and clean. Right on the banks of the slough and there’s even a resident moose!
