Simple Roadside Spots

There are lots of pull offs along this road that would be suitable for car camping, but not big rigs or tents. We were originally parked at one of the roadside pull offs until we saw an empty designated dispersed site up the road so we moved there instead. There are only 3 designated sites so the pull offs are fine for a night if those are full.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the dispersed camping rules along Forest Service Road 7601?

When dispersed camping along Forest Service Road 7601, you should use only established pull-offs and the three designated dispersed sites. Car camping is permitted, but the area isn't suitable for big rigs or tent-only camping due to limited flat ground. Follow standard forest service dispersed camping guidelines: pack out all trash, maintain a clean campsite, practice Leave No Trace principles, and observe any fire restrictions in effect. Stay within existing disturbed areas and don't create new campsites. Be aware that these are primitive sites with no facilities, so come prepared with water and waste disposal solutions.

How do I access FS Road 7601 for dispersed camping near Leavenworth?

FS Road 7601 near Leavenworth offers multiple pull-off areas suitable for dispersed camping. The road is accessible for regular vehicles and car camping, though it may not accommodate larger RVs. Look for the small number of designated dispersed sites along the road, which are more established than the roadside pull-offs. When arriving, drive slowly and scout for available spots, as there are only about three designated dispersed sites. For the best experience, bring a vehicle that handles unpaved forest service roads, and have a backup plan in case all designated sites are occupied.

What is the best time of year for dispersed camping near Leavenworth on FS Road 7601?

Late spring through early fall offers the best conditions for dispersed camping along FS Road 7601 near Leavenworth. Summer provides reliable access and comfortable temperatures, though this is also when the limited sites fill up quickest. Consider weekday visits during peak summer months to avoid competition for the few designated sites. Early fall brings beautiful colors and fewer crowds. Winter camping is not recommended due to potential snow and difficult access on forest service roads. Always check road conditions and seasonal closures before heading out, as mountain weather can change rapidly in the Leavenworth area.
