Description
Deep in the Wenatchee National Forest along the Eight Mile Road corridor (FS 7601), this forest clearing serves as a basecamp for rock climbers and Enchantments-bound hikers alike — the Colchuck and Stuart Lake trailheads are the primary draw on the road above. Eight short-walk tent sites radiate off a central gravel parking area, each with a rock fire pit and log bench, and a porta-potty maintained by the Leavenworth Climbing Association is on-site. The access road is passable for high-clearance vehicles and car campers, but the entrance corner is tight — larger vans and anything beyond a standard-length sprinter will struggle with the turn and the uneven parking surface. The area closes around November 1 and sees heavy summer use, with climbers sometimes staying for extended stretches and trail traffic beginning well before dawn.
