American Heritage Campground

RV owners seeking full hookups and forested sites find American Heritage Campground positioned just off I-5 in Olympia, with electric, water, and sewer connections available at most sites. The family-owned campground operates year-round on wooded terrain that provides natural separation between camping spots, creating privacy even when the facility reaches capacity.

The heavily forested setting creates individual sites with substantial tree cover, though campers report some road noise from the nearby interstate. Amy B. appreciated "the privacy of the heavily wooded individual sites" during her stay. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with portable restrooms distributed throughout the property and shower facilities available in the main lodge building.

Staff members receive consistent praise for their helpfulness, particularly with RV maneuvering guidance for newer campers. The property includes a general store, laundry facilities, and a fenced swimming pool that operates seasonally. A small farm area adds character to the grounds, and hayrides are offered during certain periods. Ice and firewood are available for purchase at the main office.

Access proves straightforward from the interstate, though the surrounding industrial development can make initial navigation confusing for first-time visitors. Reservations are accepted and recommended, especially for full-hookup sites. Olaf P. noted finding "a really nice spot in the area that has WiFi" when arriving without advance booking. The campground accommodates pets with a two-dog limit, though exceptions may be granted. Sites are back-in only with 30-amp electrical service, making this location suitable for smaller to mid-sized RVs seeking convenient highway access with wooded surroundings.

Couldn't care less

We weren't impressed when we camped here several years ago & haven't returned. We stopped in only to dump our tanks, since the RV dumps at Scatter Creek Rest Area, LOTT downtown, & Pilot Travel Center all were closed. Instead of charging $10 or $15 to dump like most places, they charged $40. When asked why, "...it's policy. Nothing i can do about it."

Nope. That's an "i couldn't care less" answer from a couldn't-care-less employee who works for a couldn't-care-less business.

Hidden Gem - Peaceful, family owned

I’m always weary before I arrive. You never know what you’re gonna drive up to. I’d stay here any time. I feel safe, comfortable, spacious sites (only back in), fire pits, old school playground which we love and friendly owners who also staff it. Apparently it’s been in the fam for over 40 years. Lovely. Not new and fancy but quaint and classic.

Recommend 100%

First off, Rita is a sweet soul and enjoyable to talk to. Her family helps run the place and are friendly and helpful. The lots are well plotted with space and privacy.

Great campground

We arrived without a reservation and were happy that the office was still open at 7pm on a Sunday. The staff was super friendly and we got a really nice spot in the area that has WiFi. The campground is great, in a little forest with plenty of space between the lots and very quiet. Clean facilities and they even have a little farm.

Awesome hidden camping

We had a little trouble finding this spot because an industrial area moved in around the campground.  Signs tell you where it is, but it feels wrong. If you follow signs to the campground, you won't be disappointed.

We met the owner and visited with her for a while about her business. Unfortunately, there are no tent spots available. But we were able to get an RV spot and had access to a very clean shower and restroom.

Great campground

This feels like a park, super friendly hosts. It is an older park, so only up to 30 amp service. Would definitely come back!

Last Minute Trip

One of my all time favorites! Super last minute trip and the host was amazing making an exception for us having 3 dogs (2 dog limit). Military discount for nightly reservations. Nice quiet campground with fire ring and picnic table. Host was amazing as always. Unfortunately due to COVID, the tent area is closed, and due to terrible weather recently part of the campground was flooded. Site #5 is close to main office where you can get wifi if you want, we declined though. Restrooms were good. No issues. Will definitely return again soon!

Not remote but quiet

This campground is located just off of I-5 in Olympia, WA. Privately owned and very nice. Large sites, many with hookups for RVs. Pets are welcome. You can hear some road noise but it’s generally quiet. Lots of trees, sites are roomy and clean. Camp owners are extremely kind and do a wonderful job with the property.

Nice secluded accessible campsite

I really appreciated the ease of getting to the campground off of I-5 and the privacy of the heavily wooded individual sites. The best part for me was the friendliness and helpful advice about towing and backing up my trailer from the gentleman who checked us in. I had just picked my trailer up that day so I was completely new to it. Thousands of miles later I'm still hearing that solid advice in my head. Lucky for me this was my first stop!

Good base camp

This is a great campsite for a stop off or if you are looking for a few more amenities.  We stayed here last summer and enjoyed our time.  There was a burn ban so didn’t get to have a campfire but the option was nice.  Each campsite has a picnic bench and all are relatively secluded.

They have ice and wood available for purchase as well as a small general store.  At the main lodge, there is also laundry available.  One great aspect of this campground is it has a fenced in pool.  This year they are offering hayrides through the park.

The bathrooms in the park are Porto potties. There is a bathroom in the main Lodge but be prepared.
