    Greenbrier River Campground

    Camping on the Greenbrier River

The Greenbrier River RV Park campground was fine. It was right on the Greenbrier River and you could do float, kayak and canoe trips from the campground. There were full hook-up sites and tent sites (right on the river). The sites were pretty big and most were shaded. It was close (less than 15 minutes) to Lewisburg and to the Greenbrier River Trailhead in Caldwell. There were no walking paths or bike paths in the campground which was my only issue. Some people didn't like the trains that passed by periodically, but I like trains so no complaints here. We took a day to explore the New River Gorge National Park. Beautiful!

    Great quiet campground.

Great mix of full hook up, water and electric, and tent sites. A wooded campground with beautiful ponds, and a trout fishing pond. Big enough for small and medium size campers but not being surrounded by giant RV’s and fifth wheels. Just off the blue ridge parkway. GreAt access to all the hiking. Stayed here twice. The little country store is great.

    Middle Creek Campground

    Great location but...

Stayed here for a long weekend. We had our 20 foot camper trailer and our friends stayed in - cabin. Pro’s:Our campsite was nice, fairly private and backed up to a creek. Relatively level site. Location of campground was excellent with convenient access to breweries, great hike, blue ridge parkway, etc. large campground with lots of camp sites.

Con’s: we called and called to to inquire about some of our reservation needs, could rarely reach anyone. Rarely staffed in the shoulder season of the fall. Asked about fire would and was told told that they don’t have it ( they didn’t say they were out or didn’t have any at that time, just they don’t sell firewood) Later in the evening a new set of campers checked in after hours and had fire wood waiting for them. Our friends checked in after hours and we’re not provided a door code for their cabin and someone had to crawl through an unlocked window. No after hours number. When staff informed the next day, no attempt to apologize. The cabin seemed to be infested with stink bugs. Bathrooms were poorly maintained. Definitely functioning and clean but needs sim TLC and upgrades. Trash bins through out site tipped over every morning and didn’t seem to be collected. The electric hookup circuit breaker was very loose.

Overall, I would choose somewhere else to stay next time.

    Small town relaxation

This was the first campground we got to try in Virginia and it did not disappoint! There’s a lot of ppl who stay here long term bc it’s so great. A train goes by across the river every few hrs and we love hearing it! The water is clear and so fun to cool off in. The bathrooms aren’t far. The owner is so friendly and lives on the grounds. He sells wood and has a small store. The only negative for me is no picnic table but we bring a folding one now! The palisades are gorgeous and a must see!! Edit: he has put picnic tables in now.

    Great First Time Experience

Our first stop on our very first ever camp trailer adventure couldn’t have gone more smoothly! We had a gravel pull through spot with a picnic table on a wooden deck, fire pit, and full hook up. There is a pool and a playground, however they were both closed due to Covid. Natural Bridge is very close—an impressive rock landmark with lush trails through the woods and opportunities for creek wading. We had a great time!

Great overnight stay would have liked to stay longer

Stopped in for a quick overnight stay. Our site was a full hook up pull through which was decent sized and did not feel cramped. We were able to stay connected to our tow vehicle as the site was long enough to do so. The park had a clean pool and very welcoming staff. We wish we were able to stay longer to take in the sights as it is in a great location.

    Marlinton Creek and Trail

    Small Town Camping

A very neat campsite at the end of the small town of Marlinton, WV. The town itself hosts events all the time and has the historic Greenbrier River and Greenbrier River Trail running through it.

Our site was spacious with full hook up. There are not many sites and the atmosphere was very relaxed. It is within walking distance for downtown Marlinton but feels like it is remote. It is also within walking distance of the river and trail.

The location is within driving distance of more sightseeing opportunities than I have space to list.

Nice Overnight Stay- Would stay again for longer

We stopped here overnight on a trip from Chicago to Virginia Beach. We had reserved a pull through but were just short in length and had to disconnect the tow vehicle for the night. They had longer sites so if this is important I would discuss when making reservation.  Site size was decent and definitely not on top of our neighbors giving us some space to enjoy. Campsite hosts were very friendly and recommended a swimming hole just a few miles down the road on the Blue Ridge Parkway that locals go swimming. Some nice amenities for the kids included jumping pad, nice park, pool and a few table games. Campground was quiet at night and we enjoyed a nice fire that evening. We found some time to drive the parkway. We did not think we would be able to squeeze it into the visit but it’s hard to pass up and they are literally right next to it. We did not get a chance to check showers or bathhouse as we had full hook ups and showered in our trailer. I would definitely recommend this campground and would stay again

    Wonderful Little RV Park

Just a wonderful small RV park in rural West Virginia. We needed to stay overnight and Ann was terrific in finding us a spot to stay in. Great hospitality and reasonable prices for the spots. Absolutely gorgeous views across the pastures and hills. As we were leaving in the morning Ann mentioned we should come down the road to her little shop in the adjacent lot to the RV park. It was a Saturday and we were just driving another 4 hours so we stopped down there. Cute little shop, fresh strawberry jam canned. It was almost lunch so we (Me, wife, and our five kids) had pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, and soda pop. Some of the best pulled pork and slaw I've had! Can't speak highly enough of this little RV park

    Exactly what we needed

Great camp ground in the mountains! Went in Labor Day weekend and although it was busy with lots of RVs and travel trailers and tent campers. it never felt crowded. Lots of trees and the sites were roomy. The campground had everything we needed without unnecessary frills. Full hookups, but no Wi-Fi or anything that high up in the mountains. Didn’t even miss it. Tons of great hiking around. Right off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Country store across the street has everything you need.

Perfect for Visiting Natural Bridge with Kids

We stayed in a Pull Through, Full Hookup site on the hillside. It was surprisingly very level. We just used this as a base for visiting Natural Bridge State Park, so it was only an overnighter. The bathrooms & private showers were amazing & clean. The laundry room looked just as nice, but we didn’t use it.
We didn’t use the pool, but the kids enjoyed the Gameroom! Of everything we used there, the only thing to mention that was dirty was the game room. But I’ll take that, we were very impressed with the playground, dog park & they even had chickens & a petting farm upon entry.
This KOA seriously restored my faith in KOA’s. I will renew our membership, (which is about to expire), based on this visit. There are great ones out there!

    Outstanding State Park!

Douthat (Doubt-that) State Park is a campers dream!  Level sites with or with out hook ups, well spaced apart, fairly private, and in the middle of a pretty good forest!

Kid and pet friendly, this park has a nice lake for Kayaking/canoeing, multiple hiking trails with views, excellent opportunities for wildlife watching, and great biking trails.

It is off the beaten path so it appears to be less visited than other Virginia State Parks.

    RV park

Didn't enjoy staying here too much, gotta give it three stars though free camping in a natl forest can be hard to find, and right near natural bridge attraction. Full of travel trailers people leave parked here, and some people live out of. lots of trailers and no vehicles to accompany them.. was absolutely packed, everyone parking wherever they please taking up more room than they need. One group of people all had their rv's parked together in the center to make a big camp, seems like they had been there for a few months i think people just live here in the summer. loud, inconsiderate neighbors (more than 1) generators running all night definitely will not be coming back here unless i have to. Oh and watch out for water moccasins (poisonous snakes)

    Peaceful

Great campsites available at a very reasonable price. Beautiful views at the upper campground. Full hookup only on upper campground. Lower campground only has water and sewage. The stink bugs were terrible in the season we went. 5 months later and we are still finding stink bugs in our 5th wheel camper. There is a bathhouse on upper campground. Picnic tables at most sites on upper campground. Stayed for a month. Close to Lexington. Would stay again!

    Love this campground !

We absolutely love this campground! We prefer smaller, quieter, more rural campgrounds with lots of trees, natural features, and quiet, respectful neighbors.

This campground had the friendliest staff, awesome, well maintained grounds, plenty of activities and a great location near many attractions such as the blue ridge parkway and natural bridge.

The RV spaces were spacious and well maintained. We stayed in a spot back against the woods which afforded us more privacy.

Our only compliant was water pressure was very low. Otherwise happy with everything.

    Below Average

First, it’s difficult to find and difficult to call for directions if the one clerk in the truck stop office is busy, which is most of the time. Yes, it is full hookup and many sites are pull through. But, there’s truck noise all night which resembles a train that never stops.

    Lee Hi Campground

    A situation-dependent stopover

For $43.24 we got a pull through site with full hookups. However, we had to disconnect shore power because we kept tripping the 50A service even when we turned our draw down to 30A. As we head into 2 weeks of sewerless sites, this made sense for us to stop, shower, laundry, and top up on power and water. If you don’t have that sort of limitation ahead, this gas station truck stop likely isn’t worth your money.

    Little Piece of Heaven

We went off season in March of 2018. It was the perfect time to go as it was still "wintery", but had days of mild weather to allow for hiking. The lake is huge and allows for boating and fishing. There's a beach that you can swim from. They have several cabins that are well maintained and clean. We stayed in a cabin. But, we also checked out the tent camping pads. I would not recommend for camping with a tent as the sites are stacked on top of each other offering little to no privacy. The RV/camper sites might be better. I can't say for sure as I don't rv camp. The cabins were phenomenal. They offer a clean and basic setup with a wood stove. The exterior has a porch/deck, grill, firepit, and picnic table. Some of the cabins backup to the lake. The cabins are spread so that their is ample space between them offering privacy. Beautifully maintained, the park was pristine. The visitor center is large and offers education, camp store, literature. I am going back!

    Nice campground

We stayed in 2020, first time at this campground and will definitely stay again. Very close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, plenty of places to hike, and Natural Bridge is a must see. Plenty to do at the campground - corn hole, pool, playground, etc. We stayed in a pull-thru full-hookup site, they also have tent sites and cabins. The campsites are close together, but a nice place; staff are very nice. We have a toy-hauler and this is a great place to bring your motorcycles if you want to enjoy a great ride with beautiful scenery!

    Very Nice Private Campground

We had the opportunity to stay a couple of nights at this campground on our way to the east coast. Wow, getting there was quite a journey over narrow curvy roads but once there it was a nice area. We stayed in a full hookup site 8 on top of a hill overlooking other areas of the park. They have sites for everyone and every type of camping! The grounds are kept mowed and cleaned, ample trash receptacles that are emptied daily and clean bathrooms. The laundry was nice and if you ran low on quarters the campground store would give you quarters in sandwich bags😀. Really enjoyed our stay there and took a day to explore Floyd.

    Greenbrier State Forest

    Quiet, secluded campground

Greenbrier West Virginia State Forest campground - very nice, but limited amenities. Electric-only hookups, and no dump station on site. Water is available a short distance from the campsites. This small campground is nestled in the forest only a few miles off I-64 near Caldwell, WV. There are only about 20 RV sites, well-spaced for privacy. The dense tree canopy blocked StarLink satellite connection at our site, though it appeared that a few of the spaces with clearer views might be able to make a connection. Clean bathrooms. Good hiking trails, but watch out for poison ivy found in many spots. The small town of Lewisburg, about 8 miles distant, offers numerous good restaurants and small shops. Accessing the campground involves driving 3 miles off I-64 on State 60/14, Harts Run Rd, a winding and narrow two-lane road, which might be a challenge for larger RV trailers and motorhomes, especially if there is traffic from the picnic/events, area a mile before reaching the campground. Shortly after turning onto Harts Run Rd there is a small, narrow one-way-only tunnel that you must go through to enter the State Forest. There is a misleading sign indicating that the tunnel is only 9'2" tall, which is wrong. As one gets closer to the tunnel there is another sign that shows the maximum height (center of the arch) to be 15'4". We had no trouble getting through the tunnel with our 23" Airstream, and we saw other much longer and taller travel trailers at the campsite, so access is possible. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, although heavy thunder showers on 3 nights interrupted sitting by the campfire. We would be happy to return.

Nicely maintained sites and great trail system

Restrooms/showers: very clean, spacious, centrally located. Shower stalls are separate from the restroom and are basically their own room with lock.

Lots: Well maintained gravel lots.  Spacious and didn't feel like we were on top of our neighbors.  Good shade,  lots of trees.  Nice firepits!

Cell service: I have google fi and we had good service.  We were told by one neighbor that they were able to use a hot spot and were able to do zoom calls while using it.

Area:  We were glad we brought our bikes because the roads going around the park were very bike-able (hilly, though!) without much traffic so we felt safe and enjoyed touring about the park.  The campground is about 2 miles from the public access/beach part of the lake, so that'd be something to plan for.

Hookups: I had a 30amp hookup with no issues. They also have up to 50amp full hookups. All of them looked well maintained.

Staff: super friendly; good check-in experience.  Camp host greeted us pretty quickly as we were setting up.  FYI per someone else's comment - most campgrounds allow you to take firewood and if you don't have cash or the exact amount, you can tell the visitor center on the way out to run your card rather than leaving extra $$ in the box.

Overall: great trail system around the park, quiet campground, had a good time.

    Pleasant Stopover

We stayed at Leesville Lake Campground on our way to and from a visit to Washington, DC. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We stayed at the level sites across the street: easy-in, easy-out. Some of the sites on the other side of the street looked like they might be a challenge to get into. You might want to talk to the owners about that before you settle on a site.
