Sitting on South Hero Island in Lake Champlain, Camp Skyland puts campers directly on the water with open sightlines toward the Adirondack Mountains across the lake. The road into the campground can be rough, so drivers with larger rigs should note the 24-foot RV limit before planning a trip. Tent sites, RV hookups with electric, water, and sewer, and rental cabins all share the property, though cabins book up well in advance on a year-over-year reservation system.
Water access is the central draw here. A small rocky beach gives swimmers and paddlers a launch point, and the lake bottom yields an unusually varied mix of rocks that campers have found worth researching on the spot. Whitney W. calls it a "fantastic lake for rock collecting," and the clear water supports both swimming and fishing. The Island Line Trail, a rail trail that extends across the lake via a causeway and ferry, runs nearby and makes the campground a reasonable base for cyclists.
The bathhouse and restrooms are small but functional. Mosquitoes can be intense, particularly in early summer, so screens and repellent are worth packing. Cell service may be limited on the island. Campers staging a broader Lake Champlain trip will find campgrounds around Burlington for additional options, and nearby properties like Apple Island Resort and Keeler Bay Campground fill in the surrounding area. Book early, especially for waterfront tent sites.

Camp Skyland is ideally situated on the southernmost tip of the Lake Champlain Islands in South Hero, VT. Skyland is a 6 acre family owned and operated campground offering camping sites and cabins on the shores of Lake Champlain. You can enjoy an unending panoramic view of the bay, lake and mountains beyond from most spots in the campground. Over the past 90+ years, we have acquired the reputation for providing a setting for unforgettable family experiences.
Our 2022 Season will begin Memorial Day Weekend and we will remain open through September 24, 2022. We look forward to you vacationing at Camp Skyland this summer for our 95th season!
