The Great Salt Lake's shoreline creates an unusual camping backdrop where RV sites and primitive beach spots share views across Utah's inland sea. Great Salt Lake State Park Campground operates as both a marina facility and overnight destination, with five RV sites offering full hookups for rigs up to 40 feet and primitive walk-in areas directly on the sandy beach.
Campers wake to expansive water views stretching toward distant mountain ranges, though the lake's fluctuating levels expose varying amounts of lakebed depending on the season. The open terrain provides little natural shade, making the picnic table shade structures at developed sites particularly valuable during summer visits. Sand becomes a constant companion here, as Tyler L. notes it "gets just about everywhere so be prepared."
Swimming in the salt-dense water offers a unique floating experience, while sunset viewing ranks among the park's main draws according to multiple visitors. The proximity to highway traffic creates some background noise, but the beach camping opportunity compensates for most travelers. Staff maintain clean restrooms and provide helpful information about lake conditions and local wildlife viewing opportunities.
For those wanting more traditional campground amenities, Flying J Travel Center — Lake Point provides full services just a few miles southwest.
