Fishlake National Forest manages this dispersed camping area off I-70 near Salina, Utah, where multiple pull-through sites spread across open terrain with broad sightlines toward the valley below. The area sits close enough to the interstate to be a convenient overnight stop, yet far enough that highway noise fades to a low background hum. It is free to camp here. Campers traveling with trailers up to 24 feet have used the sites without issue, and the road is generally easy to travel, though some sections run washboard on the lower stretch.
Sites vary in character. Some sit exposed with open views facing the valley and good angles for sunrise and sunset, while others pull back into tree cover for more shade and seclusion. Pulling roughly three-quarters of a mile past the main coordinates leads to quieter spots tucked into the trees. Roaming cattle are a common sight in the area. T-Mobile users have reported workable cell service here, though at least one camper found coverage unreliable, so results vary by carrier and location within the dispersed zone.
Ed W. sums up the experience well: "Close to the highway, far enough to not really hear it." Campers entering from the wrong interchange have reported an unnecessarily long dirt road approach, so using the Gooseberry Road exit is the recommended route. Nearby alternatives in the same corridor include Gooseberry I-70 Trailhead Dispersed — Fishlake NF to the north and Fishlake NF Dispersed off FR 0281 / Gooseberry Road to the south. This area works best for self-sufficient campers looking for a no-cost overnight stop with room to spread out along a major western corridor.
