Deschutes National Forest
Overview
Soda Creek Campground sits adjacent to Soda Creek as it flows across an open meadow into Sparks Lake.
Recreation
Sparks Lake's clear water and mountainous backdrop make it a popular destination for paddling and photography.
Facilities
Soda Creek Campground can accommodate RV, trailer or tent campers, however, electric hookups are not available. There are limited sites that are RV friendly, with most of the sites suitable for smaller vehicles or tent camping. All sites are equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring with grill and the campground has vault toilets available. Campers will need to bring their own water supply.
Natural Features
Sparks Lake, fed by streams originating on the slopes of Broken Top, rests atop a porous, volcanic lakebed. Throughout the summer the lake level decreases as snowmelt declines and water seeps underground into nearby lakes and streams.
Nearby Attractions
The accessible Ray Atkeson Trailhead begins near Sparks Lake Day Use area. The trail winds through lava channels and lodgepole pines. Less than a mile in, visitors will reach the Ray Atkeson Memorial Overlook where they will find one of the most iconic views in Central Oregon. Visitors can travel the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway, a 66-mile drive through the Cascade Range that weaves past snow-capped peaks and alpine lakes.

Beautiful spot
Beautiful location with a nice little creek running through. The water was amazingly clear and nice and cool. Great views of Mt. Bachelor. Good service with Verizon. Unfortunately squirrels and chipmunks are a big problem and VERY comfortable with humans. They were pretty aggressively trying to get my food and I could hear them trying to get into my car at night. There is only one bathroom and it stunk to high heaven. The only public access is near site 3, Unfortunately the camper who rented site 3 during my stay, parked his car on this path and I had to walk around it to use the bathroom. Most of the sites are relatively small but the first 2 are large enough to accommodate RVs.
Incredible views of the Sisters and Broken Top
This is a very small and primitive developed campground near Mount bachelor. The campground has only 10 sites (reservable) and they all have at least partial views of the Sisters and Brokentop. A small creek runs by it and add to the picturesque scene. Pit toilet and garbage are the only amenities. Good AT&T cell reception
Beautiful views
We have gone here twice and each time have done different activities. The last time we brought kayaks and paddled down the curvy stream to the main lake, which was very shallow! The evening air is crisp even in the summer which I enjoy after a long hot day hiking on the many trails in the area. There are a few sites here that I prefer which are the closest to the end of the campground next to the creek. We have not had any fellow campers while we were there but we go in the middle of the week due to the high traffic on the weekends. It is a little bit more open so if you want privacy bring some tapestries. I wouldn't bring a rv or anything, maybe a camper on a pick up truck.
