Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area

Overview

Evans Campground, is located along the northeastern shoreline of Lake Roosevelt. The site is long and narrow, an orientation that allows for a fantastic, clear view of the lake from every vantage point. There are 44 individual campsites. Lake Roosevelt is a 130-mile lake on the Columbia River created by the Grand Coulee Dam. Named after President Franklin D. Roosevelt, it is part of the Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area and managed by the National Park Service.

Recreation

The boat launch provides year-round access to the lake. Boating, fishing, swimming and water skiing are activities that can easily take place from the campground. Campers might also enjoy relaxing and taking in the beautiful view or attending educational ranger programs.

Facilities

Evans is a reservation only campground. It can be reserved year round. However, the sites are not plowed in the winter time. There are picnic tables, drinking water available seasonally. Fire pits, water access and playground are located within the facility.

Natural Features

Evans provides ample shade with thick forests of ponderosa pine, douglas fir and maple trees. The lake area is abundant with wildlife, including moose, elk and deer. Quite a few bald eagles have been spotted around Evans, and dozens of species of fish inhabit the lake, such as walleye, bass, rainbow trout, salmon and sturgeon. Fishing for sturgeon is now allowed during a short season. Much of the water in the originates from glaciers and snow in the cold, high Canadian Rockies, though temperatures are pleasant to swim in during summer.

Another great campground on Lake Roosevelt

All of the Lake Roosevelt campgrounds have such great history and scenery. The Columbia River lake area has so much history of Kettle falls. In the spring the levels of the lake are low and you can take several walking tours of the ruins. This is a quiet campground with not a ton of lake views in the spring. The water level is too low. I'm sure it's great in the summer. In the off season it is only $9 a night and the campgrounds are empty. I'm sure they are busy in the summer season when it goes up to $18 a night. The bathrooms have been clean each time I go.

A fisherman’s paradise

Very busy campground when there are fishing events. First come first serve except group camp, which is reservable. River view from almost every camp site. This campground is popular with the fisherman. There is a boat launch and a dock for your boat as well. There is also a swimming area and dogs are allowed in the river just not in the marked off swimming area. Bathrooms are well maintained with flush toilets. No shower.
