Kettle River Campground — Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area

Fishing and kayaking opportunities draw campers to Kettle River Campground, where 12 sites sit along the banks of the Kettle River within Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area. The campground provides water and sewer hookups for RVs up to 36 feet, though paved parking pads run tight for larger rigs. Sites spread out with reasonable spacing between neighbors, most positioned directly off the riverbank.

The Kettle River offers swimming and floating conditions from early July through late August when water levels reach their peak. Campers can launch watercraft at the on-site boat ramp, though dedicated swimming areas remain limited. Scott B. notes "beautiful river waters and some sandy beaches" along with frequent bald eagle sightings. A small store operates near the boat launch, and vault toilets serve the campground.

Access involves rough road conditions that some visitors find challenging. The campground sits surrounded by forest with open views between sites, offering limited privacy but expansive sightlines toward the water. Cell service provides 2-3 bars for basic connectivity. River levels drop significantly in winter and spring before returning to full capacity by early July. Those exploring the region can find campgrounds near Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area for additional options along this expansive reservoir system.

Nice dry camping

This was a clean and well maintained campground. Only 12 sites most of which are right off the bank of the Kettle River. There was some space between most of the sites. We squeezed our 30 foot trailer and truck into pull through site 11. The was a clean and stocked vault tiolet on site. I had 2-3 bars on my Verizon phone. Slow but good enough to check email and search local info. The river was down and we were told it is drawn down in Febraury but back up to high levels first week of July. Beautiful area.

Dispersed Sites

We stayed here with our 21’ travel trailer. There are no hookups so we brought a our generator and made sure we had a full tank of water. The sites were far enough apart to provide some sense of separation, which we liked. The paved parking was quite small for the “max vehicle length” rating. This left us using every in of pavement we had. Access to the water is limited to the boat launch and there isn’t much of a water play area. The little store at the boat launch was nice, and the person working there was friendly. We also, utilized the free event dump on our way out, which was convenient located.

Serene water surroundings

Nestled in the trees, this spot is wide open between sites (little privacy), but surrounded on three sides by water making.  Expect warm temps in July (it reached 99F when we were here).

Super small. Doesn't get much use

Seems much like a lot of the campgrounds in the Colville National Forest. Really quiet, there was nobody there but us! Vault toilets, picnic tables and fire rings at every site! The wildlife viewing is always nice. Bring binoculars! $9 in the off season and $18 in the regular season. So worth it depending on how many people are there in the summer.

The Kettle River

Beautiful river waters and some sandy beaches. The kettle river is usually good for swimming and floating from the beginning of July until the end of August. Lots of bald eagles and other birds to watch. n
