Escribano Point WMA Bayside Campground - CLOSED

Within the Yellow River Water Management Area, Escribano Point WMA Bayside Campground operated as a primitive camping destination along Florida's Emerald Coast before its closure. The Northwest Florida Water Management District managed this waterfront facility that required a five-mile drive on dirt and sand roads to reach the bay-side sites.

Campers found sites positioned directly along the water with unobstructed views across the bay. The campground featured portable toilets that reviewers consistently noted were kept clean, though no shower facilities or potable water were available on-site. Sites sat close together with minimal privacy between camping spots, creating a more communal atmosphere than typical backcountry experiences. A park ranger made daily morning rounds to check on new arrivals and monitor the area.

The location provided direct access to kayaking and fishing opportunities right from the campsites. "Listen to the bay lapping at the bank all night," describes Cale D. about the waterfront setting. Wildlife sightings included deer and bear in the surrounding area. Hiking trails extended from the campground into the broader management area. Local visitors sometimes arrived late in the evening, though serious issues remained uncommon.

The campground worked best for smaller RVs and tent campers comfortable with primitive conditions. Campers needed to bring all water and supplies, as the nearest services were several miles away on paved roads.

Great weather in late winter and early spring

The air is brisk, the views magnificent, and the campground is clean and neat. There are no facilities other than a porta-potty but that's what camping is about, right?

Beautiful area with amazing kayaking and trail opportunities. Park ranger was by every morning to check on new arrivals. Locals showed up often and late into the night, nothing beyond some off leash dog issues occurred but it's not a place I'd leave my gear for long.

The bad: spots are super close together and there is zero privacy due to that. This ruins the experience of wild camping.

Beautiful views

It was 5 miles of dirt/sand to get here, but sites are nice for primitive. Toilets were clean. Bring water. Watch for deer/ bear. Listen to the bay lapping at the bank all night.

Stunning Sunsets

I loved this campsite. So peaceful. Picture perfect campsites along the water with amazing views of the bay. Beautiful sunsets. No shower facility or potable water. Primitive so no electricity. Portable bathrooms that are kept clean. Great hiking trails and you can bring your kayak.
