About Pine City

Pine City Campground is located in the Inyo National Forest in California's Eastern Sierras, near the town of Mammoth Lakes. The campground stretches along a road that parallels Lake Mary, which sits just across the road. Visitors enjoy easy access to fishing opportunities and many hiking trails.

Lake Mary covers 106 acres and makes a great base camp for a variety of recreational activities. Boating, canoeing, kayaking and rainbow trout fishing are popular activities on the lake.

Lake George is adjacent and offers access to many hiking trails into the Upper Lakes Basin, where Crystal, Barrett and TJ Lakes are found. The trails begin in the Lake George parking area. The trail to Crystal Lake is just 2.5 miles round trip.

The campground offers sites for tent and RV camping. Each site is equipped with a picnic table, food storage locker and campfire ring with grill. Flush toilets and drinking water are provided.

Natural Features

The campground lies among lodgepole pine trees at an elevation of 8,900 feet. Each campsite has a view of the vertical, 9,000 to 10,000-foot peaks of the John Muir Wilderness, as well as Lake Mary.

Many species of wildlife call the mountains home, including black bear, mountain lions, mule deer, pine marten, pika and numerous fish and birds.

Nearby Attractions

Mammoth Lakes Basin contains several popular lakes with fishing and boating opportunities.

Visitors can also access the magnificent John Muir Wilderness nearby, which stretches for 100 miles along the crest of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Lofty, snow-capped peaks, deep canyons and vast expanses of glacially-carved terrain offer extensive hiking and horseback riding trails.

High traffic Busy campground

Pine City sits right on the lake Mary loop Road. The campground and lake are separated by a high traffic road. The campground was very hot in the middle of the day. Seems the place to spend the day is down by the lake in the shade. With the constant traffic from the road this campsite was very noisy and just a constant flow of traffic. If your looking for a more quiet campground i would look up the road at coldwater campground or Lake George. Unless you're in an RV and just there to enjoy the lake access I would suggest another site. There are several in the lake basin that aren't as busy.
