Star-gazing and trail access draw campers to Roys Peak Vista, a backcountry site in Big Bend National Park reached via Old Ore Road. High clearance is required. The drive runs roughly an hour from Dagger Flat and two hours from Rio Grande Village, so plan accordingly. The site has a bear box and open sightlines toward the valley and surrounding mountains, but no water and no fires. Bring all water in. A free permit is required and available the day before at Chisos or Panther Junction. Nearby McKinney Spring Primitive Site — Big Bend National Park offers another backcountry option if this site is taken.
