Schreiner City Park - Junction

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Accessible directly off the main road into Junction, Schreiner City Park sits along a river with views of the water, a dam, and the surrounding Texas Hill Country. The campground is open year-round and accepts reservations, though campers should note an important policy shift: RVs are no longer permitted overnight, and tent camping only is currently the rule. Facilities listed include restrooms, showers, and a dump station, but at least one recent visitor found the bathrooms locked on arrival, so arriving self-sufficient is a reasonable precaution.

Sites are informal. Each picnic table functions as its own spot, and the park has minimal lighting after dark, which makes arriving before sunset worth planning around. Todd M. notes "convenient access off the main drag into Junction, with a waterhole and beach," and the park's position within walking distance of town restaurants, a grocery store, and shops adds practical value for multi-night stays.

Nearby alternatives include Junction City Park, Tree Cabins RV Resort, and North Llano River RV Park, which may suit RV travelers turned away by the overnight restriction. For a broader look at campgrounds around Junction, the area has several options along the Llano River corridor. Schreiner City Park works best as a low-cost overnight base for tent campers who want quick access to town and a riverside setting without much infrastructure.

Nice free overnight spot.

I was not sure if this spot had the free camping or not but after arriving I saw the signs that they actually were doing the free camping again for tent campers , even though they do not allow RVs anymore. When I arrived it was pretty dark as they have very little lights at night so I was not sure how the spots work but pretty much every picnic table is a spot. There are not many amenities here besides a picnic table and the shelter cover, with no water and no electric. There are bathrooms and showers apparently but they were locked. That was a bummer because they allow people to stay and visit with no facilities at all.

During the day you can enjoy the beautiful turquoise river as well as the cute little town of Junction that is adjacent to this park. There are a number of cool little thrift shops and a few restaurants that you can grab it by to eat at. The town has one grocery store as well as a couple of gas stations and the family Dollar and Dollar Tree. At the outskirts of town there a few truck stops that have more facilities and other gas stations stuff.

All in all this spot is not that bad if you're just looking to park for an overnight stay or even if you want to pitch a tent for the night or a couple of nights to explore the area. Just be aware that there are no facilities and you will have to go into town to the gas stations or the truck stops that are a little further down.

RV overnight no longer allowed

Nice park but unfortunately overnight in your RV is no longer allowed. It’s posted throughout the park that only tent camping is allowed and day use only for RVs.

NO LONGER FREE

We stopped here around 03/20/22 for a night of free camping before hitting the road again the next day.

Before we got set up, a city employee introduced himself and advised us that due to so many complaints, they are no longer allowing people to park here overnight.

Perfect overnight location for I-10 travelers

A very pleasant park with pull through locations along a river. Not very big, estimate room for 8-10 RVs. I drive a campervan and fit in between two Class As very nicely. Scenic views of the river, a dam, and the surrounding Texas hill country. I pulled in around 7, strong AT&T signal, very quiet all night. And it's free!
